さて、携挙がいつ起こるかという点に目を向けてみましょう。聖書には、携挙について書かれている聖句がたくさんあります。新約聖書にも多くの聖句がありますし、旧約聖書にも、例えば、火の戦車に乗って天へ上って行ったエリヤと、神とともに歩んで、神に取られたエノクなど、携挙について触れている聖句は数多くあります。このように、聖書には多くの箇所で携挙のことが書かれています。携挙とは「引き上げる」という意味です。神の力によって、神の民が天に引き上げられることを指します。
ところが、聖書の中で最も不可解なのは、この携挙の問題でもあるのです。神はいつご自分の民を引き上げてくださるのでしょうか。この携挙の時に関する質問は、キリスト教の中で最もよく聞かれる質問の一つです。
