  • Care in Motion Podcast Ep010 Home Health: When Home Health Goes Viral: The Faces Behind Your Favorite Feed
    May 14 2025

Wow, Episode 10 of the Care in Motion Podcast was so fun! We got to hang out with Dan and Lisa, the creative minds behind some of the most popular home health social media accounts out there.

Dan told us the hilarious backstory of how "Rose" came to be – picture him sitting in his car, drowning in startup documentation on a beautiful day, thinking "I have to make fun of this ridiculousness!" His first healthcare post blew up with 4,000 views; the rest is history. And that voice? It's just something he's been doing for decades, inspired by conversations with his wife (who's also a PT) about their workdays.

Lisa started Home Health Chronicles after noticing nobody represented the home health world on social media. Despite being self-described as "shy" and "not that funny," she jumped in headfirst, creating memes about our daily struggles. Her content has evolved to include those anonymous confessions that sometimes make you go "Wait, that's Medicare fraud!" 😳

The best part? Hearing how their content has created this amazing sense of community. Dan shared stories of people playing his videos at the start of meetings to lighten the mood, and Lisa talked about how her page gives isolated clinicians a place to feel understood. They've both been recognized in public – Dan at his daughter's soccer game and in Costco (of course!), while Lisa is just starting to put herself out there more.

It was a genuine conversation about using humor to cope with healthcare challenges while creating connections in a field where you don't always get to see your coworkers. If you're in home health, you'll relate!

    May 7 2025

In this engaging ninth episode of the Care in Motion Podcast, hosts discuss the critical aspects of creating effective home exercise programs (HEPs) for patients and navigating continuing education requirements as physical therapists.

The conversation kicks off with practical insights about designing patient-specific exercise programs. The hosts share their approaches to introducing exercises gradually, emphasizing the importance of starting with just 2-3 fundamental exercises rather than overwhelming patients with extensive routines. They discuss strategies for improving patient compliance, including connecting exercises to meaningful personal goals, using patient-friendly terminology, and ensuring proper demonstration.

Fascinating patient stories highlight the impact of motivation and goal-setting, including a remarkable 97-year-old who excelled in therapy due to her strong desire to return to her senior center activities. The therapists also address the delicate balance of challenging patients appropriately without discouraging them.

The second half of the episode explores continuing education requirements across different states, comparing online versus in-person learning experiences, and sharing resources for tracking and completing CEUs efficiently. The hosts desire more home health-specific educational opportunities and scenario-based training relevant to their practice setting.

Whether you're a physical therapy professional looking to enhance your home exercise programming or a clinician navigating CEU requirements, this episode offers valuable insights and practical strategies for elevating your practice.

In this engaging episode, our panel of experienced home health therapists discusses the importance of building strong relationships with schedulers and back office staff.

The conversation highlights how schedulers serve as the backbone of home health operations, coordinating patient visits and helping therapists navigate the chaos of daily scheduling. The therapists share personal experiences about their favorite schedulers (with special mentions to "Pat") and how these relationships develop over time.

    1. The value of appreciation - Simple gestures like saying "thank you," giving public recognition, and acknowledging extra efforts make schedulers feel valued and more likely to go above and beyond.
    2. Understanding scheduler challenges - The panel reflects on how schedulers must simultaneously balance patient needs, therapist preferences, and company requirements.
    3. Setting healthy boundaries - As therapists move through different life stages, learning to say "no" becomes essential to prevent burnout. The group discusses how good schedulers help protect therapists' time and personal boundaries.
    4. Weekend scheduling complexities - The conversation covers the unique challenges of weekend visits, including last-minute changes and communication differences with weekend staff.
    5. Practical relationship-building tips - From coffee gift cards to birthday wishes to stopping by the office for non-work conversations, the panel offers simple ways to strengthen scheduler relationships.

The episode ends with reflections on how these relationships evolve throughout a therapist's career and the mutual respect that develops between clinicians and their scheduling teams. A lighthearted conversation about saunas and Texas heat weaves throughout, showcasing the panel's camaraderie.

  • Care in Motion Podcast Ep004 Home Health: Handling Curveballs
    Mar 31 2025

Home health physical therapists regularly face unexpected disruptions or "curveballs" that impact their carefully planned schedules. The Care Motion podcast participants discussed several types of these disruptions, including traffic accidents, patient emergencies, and last-minute schedule changes. Their collective wisdom emphasized prioritizing personal safety first, maintaining clear communication with all parties, being flexible with scheduling, taking a step back when necessary, and planning strategically for known absences. Despite different payment structures (salary vs. per-visit) affecting how therapists respond to these challenges, the core message remained consistent: Effective communication and adaptability are essential, along with accepting that some days won't go as planned and learning to "roll with it."
