Bakes in Bloom with Amy Thornley

  • Summary

  • Today we have the lovely Amy from Bakes in Bloom.

Bakes in Bloom is Amy’s cupcake business, in the heart of Rugeley, Staffordshire, specializing in transforming cupcakes into edible flowers.  Over 4 years ago, Amy decided to give herself a break from her job as an Assistant Psychologist.

She didn’t really know what she wanted to do, however, one day she literally had that ‘’lightbulb moment’’. Amy had never heard of cupcake bouquets until she was trying to think of a present for her mum's birthday. Cupcake flowers just popped into Amy’s head, and she decided to run with it – because homemade presents are the best and she was skint!

Amy decided to set up a Facebook page to see if there would be anyone interested in buying some of her cupcakes. 5 years later and the business has gone from strength to strength, and she now has over 15k followers on Instagram.
However, it wasn’t all happy days for Amy when one day she found out that another baker, had stolen her business name. Unfortunately, Amy had not trademarked her business name so in the eyes of the law; she didn’t have a leg to stand on.

Tune in to hear Amy's story and see how she handled the situation.
