About this listen

Patricia Falvey is the author of five historical novels each with a connection to Ireland, where she spent her early years. In this episode, she shares her story of immigrating alone to the U.S. and spending 30-plus years in accounting, although she'd always dreamed of being a writer. She even told bedtime stories to herself as a young child.

She talks about how she made her way in the United States, initially working in Omaha for the Job Corps before heading to Boston, where she received a foreign scholarship to Suffolk University and went on to have a successful career as an accountant and CPA. Then she took a leap of faith and pursued her dream of becoming a full-time writer. Falvey's best-selling novels focus on Irish history and ordinary characters living through major historical events, blending fact with fiction.
