About this listen
Author Ally Russell ("It Came From the Trees," Delacorte Press, 2024) joins Scotty to discuss growing up as a horror fan in the zombie hub of Pittsburgh, taking inspiration from R.L. Stine, Stephen King, and her father's macabre sense of humor, deciding to pursue a career as a writer after working as a bookseller at Barnes & Noble, and pursuing an MFA in Children's Literature at Simmons University in Boston. She talks about what she learned about writing for young readers, her terror of the woods, her fascination with aliens and cryptids, her love of found footage horror, and how she applied all of that to her debut middle-grade novel.
Ally and Scotty also talk about how "The Blair Witch Project" (1999) influenced her work, and how its under-appreciated 2016 sequel "Blair Witch" builds upon its predecessor.
