Und Richard Strauss komponiert, während in Europa der Zweite Weltkrieg tobt, eine „heitere Mythologie“, die sich um altphilologische Korrektheit wenig schert und die ihm am Ende zum großen Abschiedsgesang gerät. Claus Guth inszeniert, Sebastian Weigle dirigiert Straussʼ (vor-)letzte Oper an der Bayerischen Staatsoper, erstmals wieder seit 1988.
