AAPI Ambition is a podcast dedicated to sharing powerful stories from Asian American and Pacific Islander leaders who are navigating dual identities while driving change in their careers and communities. I’m your host, Leenna Choudharry, and my mission is to highlight voices from the St. Louis region who are balancing heritage with ambition.
In this first episode, I’m honored to be joined by Omar Malik — a trusted legal advisor, community leader, and president of the Asian American Chamber of Commerce of St. Louis. https://www.linkedin.com/in/omardmalik/
Omar Malik drafts, reviews, and updates complex trusts and estate plans, handling sophisticated tax matters for individuals and businesses. He advises on estate, gift, and generation-skipping tax issues, as well as business succession, legacy, and charitable planning. Before joining Thompson Coburn, Omar led the Wealth Management unit at Edward Jones and served as Associate General Counsel. His expertise spans business taxation, estate planning, and corporate law.
In addition to his legal work, Omar plays a key role in the St. Louis community. He currently serves on the MICDS Board of Trustees, and enjoys traveling, running, racquet sports, and exploring different cultures and cuisines.
In our conversation, Omar reflects on his professional journey, the intersection of identity and leadership, and what it means to represent the AAPI community in high-level business and legal spaces. We explore how cultural values influence decision-making, the importance of visibility in leadership, and the legacy he hopes to leave for future generations.
