About this listen

Sabotage is probably as old as conflict itself as armies tried to destroy an enemies warlike stores and their means of production. Throughout the Cold War period, it was known that the Soviet Union and the Warsaw pact were heavily engaged in preparing for sabotage activities across NATO countries and would have engaged in that should that war have ever have turned hot.

With the end of the Cold War however, sabotage seemed to have slipped into the background and maybe not thought about, beyond the effects of what any protest groups or disgruntled employees might have had. However, with Russia's invasion of Ukraine and as they have tried to bring political pressure to bear on the West, Russia is engaging in sabotage activities, from the destruction of Ikea stores to the severing of subsea cables in the Baltic Sea.

This podcast sets out some of the issues and takes Sabotage beyond it's final kinetic act and brings in espionage that is necessary for the targeting of individual facilities and wider networks and the use of subversion to undermine public support.

Dealing with sabotage requires a whole of organisation approach and as the podcast brings out has Resilience at its core.
