يمكننا أن نموت مع المسيح عن الخطيئة بإيماننا بمعمودية يسوع على يد يوحنا. لأن يسوع مات بجميع خطايا البشر التي انتقلت لجسده بمعموديته من يوحنا، خطايانا أيضًا قد ماتت معه حينما آمنا بذلك. الحقيقة هي أن كل خطايا العالم قد نقلت الى يسوع بمعموديته من يوحنا. هذه الحقيقة لا يجب ان تُعرف فقط، بل تحفظ فى قلوبنا بإيمان. يجب ان نحفظ هذا الإيمان حتى ندخل ملكوت الله. لهذا قال بولس أننا أصبحنا أمواتًا للناموس بجسد المسيح. بذلك فكل من يؤمن بهذه الحقيقة يمكنه أن يذهب إلى يسوع المسيح، ويحيا معه، ويحمل ثمار بر الله.
