About this listen

EAST PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — Providence Journal reporter Antonia Noori Farzan joins Eli Sherman and Dan McGowan on this week’s episode of “Behind the Story” to discuss her in-depth report about a fight over access to Napatree Point in Westerly.

Farzan discusses the Great Hurricane of 1938 that destroyed a roadway that's now at the center of a legal fight that the Watch Hill Fire District has leveled against the town. She discusses what went into gathering the story, what people are saying about it and a ongoing recall effort that's spun out of the dispute.

Later in the show, Eli and Dan talk about the “Stories We Wish We Wrote.” They included:

  • How Rhode Island is attempting to stem the tide by Ellen Liberman, Rhode Island Monthly
  • How safe are Rhode Island’s other bridges? by David Wright, Rhode Island PBS/The Public's Radio
  • RITBA won’t release Mt. Hope Bridge inspection report, citing security by Tim White, 12 News

Watch Behind the Story Thursdays at 10 a.m., 1 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. on the WPRI 12+ TV app.
