參孫等拿撒勒人是神甚至在他們出生之前特別預備的,準備向神獻身。和這些拿撒勒人一樣,為耶穌施洗的約翰也是作為一個人被出生在世上,這人甚至還沒有在母親,以利沙伯的子宮裏懷孕之前就已經被神預備好了的。所以,當以利沙伯懷上施洗約翰時,一位天使說：“他在主面前將要為大,淡酒濃酒都不喝,從母腹裏就被聖靈充滿了”(路加福音1:15)。這段經文告訴我們,施洗約翰是神特別預備和揀選的人。
