1. Warm-up (1 min): The “Really?” Scale
Say “Really?” like this, with feeling:
- 😐 Statement: Really. (flat)
- 🤨 Doubt: Reaaaaally? (rising)
- 😤 Sarcasm: Rea-lly. (falling, side-eye optional)
Repeat each one 3x with exaggerated tone.
2. Mini-Phrases (2 mins): RP Intonation Patterns
Say these aloud. Focus on pitch and phrasing.
- Would you like some tea? (rising-falling)
- That’s quite alright. (falling)
- I didn’t say she stole the money. (stress shift = meaning shift)
3. Practice Sentences (2 mins): Meaning Through Melody
Try saying these naturally:
- I’m not sure that’s a good idea.
- Well, that’s one way to do it.
- I’ll let you know, shall I?
