在聖經裏，“水”屬靈的意思指“神的道，”它也指耶穌基督接受施洗約翰的洗禮，擔當人類的罪孽。在這世上，有些人傳播神的道，有些人傳播撒旦的道。所以，神把世上的水分成空氣以上的水和空氣以下的水。神做完創世第二天的事情後說:“這世上有些人因信靠吃我的道得生，有些人靠吃撒旦的道和傳播撒旦的道生活。”因此，我們務必知道如何辨別那些自稱傳播神的道的人是神的僕人還是撒旦的僕人。
各樣美善的恩賜和各樣全備的賞賜都是從上頭來的，從眾光之父那裏降下來的(雅各書1:17)。相比較，各種罪惡都出自人心。因此，當神道的光閃耀時，就會顯露出罪人的真本色。空氣以下的水，即地球上的話指自人心的教訓。所以，空氣以上的水和空氣以下的水是分開的。
