路加福音第1章第17節記載說施洗約翰有以利亞的心志能力,在主面前從事把百姓引領到神面前的工作。施洗約翰從出生就不同於別人。我們普通人只是隨著時間的推移有意無意地結婚生子。但施洗約翰的出生已經在舊約中預言和準備過。它說施洗約翰將憑以利亞的心志能力來到我們這裏。
路加福音第1章詳細地記載了施洗約翰的出生。它寫道:“他父親撒迦利亞被聖靈充滿了,就預言說:主以色列的神是應當稱頌的!因他眷顧他的百姓,為他們施行救贖,在他僕人大衛家中,為我們興起了拯救的角,正如主藉著從創世以來聖先知的口所說的話,拯救我們脫離仇敵和一切恨我們之人的手,向我們列祖施憐憫,紀念他的聖約,就是他對我們祖宗亞伯拉罕所起的誓,叫我們既從仇敵手中被救出來,就可以終身在他面前,坦然無懼的用聖潔、公義事奉他”(路加福音1:67-75)。
