 Beşiktaş have failed to extend their reign as Turkish Cup holders, following a pre-mature exit in the quarter-finals against Göztepe. Despite an excellent start by the Black Eagles and an opening goal from Ernest Muçi, assisted by Rafa Silva, just before the half hour mark. A red card for Tayyip Talha a few minutes later proved the turning point of the match, especially since Romulo fired home the resulting free-kick to level the score. Despite this Beşiktaş still put up a fight and probably should have had a penalty right before halftime, but the referee gave a freekick at the edge of the area instead, which Masuaku shot against the post. Deep in to the second half Göztepe were awarded a penalty, following an unfortunate handball by Masuaku, which Romulo converted.
