الرسول يوحنا قَدْ وَصلَ لفهم عميق لحبِّ اللهِ. هو كَانَ التلميذ الذي أحبه ربنا، إبن اللهِ؛ هو كَانَ الواحد الذي شَعرَ بهذا الحبِّ للرب بأكثر عمق، والذي شهد بهذا الحبِّ إلينا. هذا الرب قَدْ تَركَ عرش مجدهِ وجاء إِلى هذه الأرضِ ليخلصنا من كل آثامِ العالمِ.
يؤمن الرسول يوحنا أن الرب جاء إِلى هذه الأرضِ في جسد إنسان لكي يخلص كل البشريةِ من آثامهم، وأنه هو شخصياً حمل الألمِ، اللعنات، الاحتقار، الإهانات، الموت، ودينونة الخطيئةِ التي كان من المفترض أَنْ نَحْملَها. ولأن يوحنا هكذا وَثقَ بحقيقةِ الخلاص الذي اعطاه يسوع، هو يُمكنُ أَنْ يخلص من كل آثامه.
