بتَذكير كل شخصِ، القديسين والمتشكّكين، أن يسوع المسيح هو اللهُ والمخلص الحقيقيُ، الرسول يوحنا يُحذّرنا أَنْ لا نَرتكبُ خطيئة إنْكارِ لاهوتِ يسوع المسيح. بينما إنه محتملَ لنا أَنْ نخطئ امام الله في جسدنا وقلوبنا، هناك خطيئةُ واحدة التي نحن لا يَجِبُ أَبداً أَنْ نَرتكبَها. إنه خطيئة عدم الثقة بمعموديةِ يسوع إبن اللهِ التى قبلها ليَقْبلَ آثامنا، ودمه الثّمين الذى لإبنِ اللهِ و سفكه لاجلنا. إنها هذه الخطيئةِ التي الرسول يوحنا يُريدُ أَنْ يَمْنعنا من أن نَرتكبَها، لأنها سَتَقُودنا بالتأكيد إِلى الموتِ الأبدى.
