産婦人科医を志したきっかけは、医学生と研修医時代、帝王切開の現場に立ち会った時の感動だった。
その後、長崎で熱帯医学を学び、世界には顧みられない病気がある事を知る。また、当時働いていた大学病院では中東出身の妊婦を見る機会があり、さらに当時、中東で「アラブの春」が起こる中で、李は海外の産科医療の実情に強い関心を抱いた。
日本では考えられないような理由で、世界では出産の際に命を落とす妊婦が多くいるという事に衝撃を受けた李は、やがてMSFへの入団を目指す事となる。日本と世界で活躍する産婦人科医として、李が自身を突き動かすものについて語ります。
