　母の死後、絵里は久しぶりに帰った実家で、埃をかぶった足踏みミシンと、見覚えのない「ひより」という名の書かれた裁縫ノートを見つける。ノートに遺されていたのは、大人でも子どもでもない、誰のものでもないサイズのワンピースの設計図だった。
　その夜、無人の裁縫部屋でミシンがかすかに音を立て、絵里は理由もなく服を縫い始める。布に針を刺すたび、母がかつて口にしなかった思い出や、夜ごと聞こえてきたミシンの音が、鮮やかに心によみがえる。
　やがて見つかったのは、失われた家族への手紙。母は「生まれてこられなかった娘」のために服を仕立てようとし、最後の一針だけを残していた。
　誰のためでもないそのワンピースを、いま絵里が縫い上げることで、語られなかった愛と喪失が、静かに時を超えて結び直されていく――。
　過去と現在が交錯する家の中で、誰も知らなかった「祈りの縫い目」が、やさしく未来へ渡される物語。
