首先，我想明確一下什麽是罪。罪可分成神說的罪和人說的罪。罪這個詞在古希臘語中是 ‘αμαρτία (hamartia)’，意思“錯過目標”。換句話說，它指犯錯誤。這是一種違背神誡命的罪。讓我們首先審視一下人對罪的觀點。下圖解釋了人類的罪孽。
我們通過良心認識到罪。但是，人類對罪的標準因個人的社會背景、心理狀況、特定的環境和良心的不同而千差萬別。
