She was awarded the Committee to Protect Journalists' International Press Freedom Award in 2024. Shrouq leads Ain Media, the company she took over after the death of her husband, filmmaker and journalist, Roshdi Sarraj, who was killed in the ongoing war on Gaza.

Shrouq reflects on the devastation of Gaza’s natural environment, the deep cultural connection Palestinians have with the land, especially with its trees, and most poignantly, the olive tree.
