《朗夜》在知妍與外婆的對話和相處中，自然而然地穿越了一百年的時光，建構出「曾祖母、祖母、母親、我」四代人的生活。
從曾祖母開始，一直到「我」的故事；以及從「我」開始，寫給曾祖母的故事，兩條故事線逐漸交叉，填補未盡的空白。
**白丁：朝鮮王朝開始「白丁」便是沒有自由之人。七般公賤指的是官婢、妓生、吏族、驛卒、獄卒、犯罪逃亡者，八般私賤則指巫女、皮革鞋製品的工匠、使令（宮庭樂師）、僧侶、賣藝之人、男寺黨、舉史以及白丁。
