  • হান্টার অ্যাণ্ড কোম্পানী ছিল সেকালের একটি বিখ্যাত ব্যবসায় প্রতিষ্ঠান। মিঃ লুইস কুপার ছিলেন এই প্রতিষ্ঠানের হিসাবরক্ষক। বৌবাজারে এখন যেখানে সেন্ট জেভিয়ার গর্জাটি অবস্থিত, ঐখানে একটি বাড়িতে তিনি স্ত্রী-পুত্র নিয়ে বাস করতেন। বৌবাজার তখন অভিজাত পাড়া ছিল। দৈবদুর্বিপাকে ভদ্রলােকের দুটি পুত্রই হঠাৎ মারা যায়। পুত্র বিয়ােগের পর ভদ্রলােকের স্ত্রীর মস্তিষ্কবিকৃতির লক্ষণ দেখা দেয়। বাধ্য হয়ে স্ত্রীকে তিনি কিছুদিন ভবানীপুরের উন্মাদ আশ্রমে রাখেন।
