Shabari speaks to Rama, who has come to see her, about the fragrant flowers present around the ashram - 'Once, in the vicinity of the ashram, there lived a great sage named Matanga. One day, the sage thought that if the wood was not collected before the onset of rain, it would be very difficult during the rainy season. Since none of the disciples paid attention to it, the sage himself took an axe and went out of the ashram to gather the wood. All the disciples followed him. By the time they returned at sunset, wherever the sweat drops from the bodies of the disciples fell, beautiful flowers were seen blooming there’.
