There was a great saint known for renouncing all attachments. He had no attachment to wealth or any other material possessions. Once, while traveling through the city, a wealthy merchant came towards him and touched his feet. Immediately, the saint also touched the merchant's feet. The surprised merchant asked, 'Why did a great renunciant like you touch my feet?' The saint replied, 'I have renounced the attachment to worldly parents, but you have renounced the attachment to the parents of the world. Hence, you are the true renunciant, not I'. Hearing this, the merchant felt ashamed, acknowledged his mistake, and became the disciple of the saint.
