Talbot at his best! Again!

I drive truck, and I spend about 12 hours a day in my truck. When you spend so much time alone, you have to keep your mind occupied anyway you can. Thank God for my Iphone! It has allowed me to listen to lectures on every subject from law and justice, to the future of the human race. Sometimes, instead of learning, I like to spend my time in an escape that is provided by the great minds on Audible.
I have bought over 300 books on audible. Mostly I have bought novels by vince flynn, Michael.connelly, etc. Never really was into the horror fantasy genra before. But Mark Tufo changed that.
Zombie fallout 8 is a GREAT read. And like most of the books that Mark Tufo writes, you could, pick it up and read it and not be lost. But you would be doing yourself a great dis-service if you did that. You need to buy the rest and listen to them or read them in order to truly get the full enjoyment out the authors works.
If you are thinking that zombie books are for people with an IQ below 40, or rednecks, on that, with some of the drivel that people put out, I would agree with you. If you are thinking of reading any zombie book, you owe it to yourself to start with this series. You will be hooked! The main character (Mike Talbot) is a normal,(for the most part) guy, who could be the guy next door that you have BBQ with in the summer, and comes over to help you drink beer. The character development for all the characters is incredible. And the narrator, Sean Runatte, brings out every nuance and detail of the story perfectly. Seans inflections, and his voice is a HUGE part of the audio books ease of listening to.
If you read or listen to this series, then you will want to listen to the indian hill series, and spirit clearing.
Most authors, I think, Seem lost when they go from one writing subject to another. Mark Tufo does it with incredible ease. His Indian Hills series is awesome. And its on another subject I never cared to listen to before. Aliens.
Because of Mark Tufos works, I am listening to other books with aliens and zombies. I have quit comparing them to Tufos books, it really doesn't seem fair. Its like comparing monets work, to what I can do with crayolas.
In short, if you are on the fence about trying this type of book, start the series, and hang on, it's a hell of a ride!!

Fantastic! The story continues

Would you listen to Zombie Fallout 8 again? Why?

Yes, I will listen to this and the preceding 7 other audiobooks again and Lycan

Who was your favorite character and why?

Tripp, reminds me of people I know too well.

What about Sean Runnette’s performance did you like?

This guy is great, really captures the intensity of the story and each character

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Laugh and still laughing after I finished it.

Any additional comments?

If you are a hardcore Talbotinite (if it's not a word, it should be) like me, you do not want to miss this latest chapter in the series.

A Break For Mike, NEVER!!!!!

For every book i read, I feel sorry for Mike... He never gets a break.. NEVER!!!! so many many monsters here, some are really interesting.. and so many changes in the story plot.
New enemies and new team is in as well.

But the ending of this book was refreshing and happy, you guys will like it....

This zombie series is really one of my favourites, and Mark Tufo is doing a great job in this series and in others, Mike is a very interesting character.

Jumped the shark?

If you’ve listened to books by Mark Tufo before, how does this one compare?

This one was the weakest of his series. I've loved the series, but this book got a little wonky. I like the idea of a little more info behind the plague, but some of the new additional storylines seemed too far out there. I mean further than zombies and vampires, I think that is perfectly reasonalbe, but the new additions... I felt like he wanted to take the series in a direction that doesn't fit his style of writing.

I haven't gone back to the series, part of me really wants to, but part of me says, "It's over, time to move on. There are too many fish in the sea." Wait, this is a book review, anyways back on topic, I was not thrilled.

I'll give it one more try and if he continues this Fonzy shark jumping, I'm out of here.

Tufo keeps stringing it along

Great performance as always by Sean Runnette. When will it end...probably never. This book picks up right where the last left off and before you know it the book is done, and it feels like the characters went no where. Tufo throws a lot of curveballs in this one that may leave you asking "really?!" but as always the story of Mike is still great.

Disappointed!

Would you try another book from Mark Tufo and/or Sean Runnette?

Of course! I waited forever for this latest installment of the ZFO series but as far as I am concerned it was not up to Mr. Tufo's usually outstanding quality. Seemed like just one long drawn out episode of a tv show. I didn't feel like much thought went into the story; only trying to continue the story to please the masses. As for Sean Runnette, I will read anything he narrates. I actually look for other titles of his even if they are unrelated to the ZA genre.

If you’ve listened to books by Mark Tufo before, how does this one compare?

I recently finished A Shrouded World - Whistlers and ZFO8 doesn't hold a candle to it. I am looking forward to the next episode of the collaboration between Mr. Tufo and Mr. O'Brien more than the next ZFO.

What does Sean Runnette bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Sean Runnette MAKES Mark Tufo's books. They would still be great, but not nearly as good as they are with him. Sean Runnette's voice projects the humor and sarcasm that Mr. Tufo is going for. I think that is what draws me to their combination. I wish Mr. Runnette would do more narration in the Sci-fi category so I could listen to him more often.

Stretched too thin

If you can't get enough Michael Talbot, then this is for you. It's ALL Michael Talbot.

This is my, what, 13th? 14th? Mark Tufo book? Most of them centered around Michael Talbot? I was a huge fan of the Zombie Fallout series, but I've had about enough Michael Talbot as I can stand. It's not overload from frequency. I let months go by before listening again.

Here's a telling symptom of the problem with this and his other recent books. In the early books in the series, I'd set the sleep timer (or clock timer) to 60 minutes and listen as I fell asleep, but I couldn't fall asleep until the Audible sleep timer expired. I was too involved in the book to fall asleep. And my wife would wonder what I'm laughing about.

Now, I often fall asleep 15, 30 or 45 minutes before the sleep timer expires without a chuckle. When I start the next night, I don't even bother to back up over the part I missed. Because, what did I really miss? More tiresome banter. More tiresome sarcasm. And the plot hasn't moved forward. It hasn't budged for chapters.

I thought Lycan fallout would introduce something fresh because it takes place long after the Zombie fallout series. But no, it's just more tiresome banter. More tiresome sarcasm. And the "new" characters are pretty much retreads of the old, dead ones.

What makes it worse is that all the characters have been slowly morphing into Michael Talbot variants with each new book. Even "little" tommy, the vampire child sounds more and more like Michael Talbot with every new book. Same type of banter. Same type of sarcasm.

Mark Tufo is one of the most prolific writers out there, but it may now be because he only has to write one character. It's time to start with a new personality, Mark.

On the plus side, Seane Runnette is superb, as always.

We're breaking up.

I just pre-ordered this.

I missed Mike and the gang. It started good and strong, but then at some point I became bored. It bothers me to say this, but I think I'm breaking up with this series. It's not going anywhere for me. Maybe I'll come back or maybe I won't.

Wish they stopped at book 6

Yep. Book six was excellent, it was a great end to a great series, but no! He had to keep the series going and it just isn't tale that it was.

No one could be Michael Talbot other than Sean Runette, just as Dick Hill is Jack Reacher.

This was of course read perfectly, but lacked use of the many great characters that fill the pages of the series.

Want to try a series that will keep you entertained for hours upon hours, try the Jonathan Maberry's Patient Zero series read by Ray Porter. You will be a fan immediately with this special forces team dealing with zombies, vampires, and viruses that will make your blood curl. Ray Porter may be the best reader ever!

5 Stars as Always but far from best ZF

What did you like best about this story?

I loved Tripp and BT their humour is amazing

Have you listened to any of Sean Runnette’s other performances? How does this one compare?

Sean is an amazing narrator.... simples

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes, but listened to it once and thought eh..... ok so i listened to it again.

Any additional comments?

Mark Tufo is an amazing writer, brilliant, I don't think this is the best ZF by a long way, however still 5 stars as miles better than other writers. In the stories Mike Talbot has great humour a great part of the book but the humour only works with the correct characters around him and this book he was mainly with Tommy and Deneaux. Normally when listening to ZF i just burst out laughing and not once did i laugh out loud with Mike chapters but i did with Tripp and BT i did still. Deneaux killed Paul and caused other issues etc that Mike would have killed others for so did not really get that either. Not the greatest ZF but still 100% worth getting a touch below perfect still better than the rest :)

I would recommend the entire series to any of my friends. It has everything a zombie book should have! Suspense, terror, excitement and a fabulous sense of humour that lightens the darkest moments!

What did you like best about this story?

Everything about it. I've listened to the whole series so far and never get tired of it.

Sean Runnette is my favourite narrator. He brings the humour in the books to life, can't imagine anyone else performing these books.

Once again an enjoyable episode, dark humour along with a great easy listening story. Roll on Mike Talbot, there's mileage in this series yet.
