Publisher's Summary

In one way or another, we all carry trauma. It can manifest as anxiety, shame, low self-esteem, over-eating, under-eating, addiction, depression, confusion, people-pleasing, under-earning, low mood, negative thinking, social anxiety, anger, brain fog and more.

Traumas, big or 'little', leave us trapped in cycles of dysfunctional behaviours, negative thoughts and difficult feelings. Yet many people are unaware they're stuck in old reactions and patterns that stem from their past traumas. Many of us are wary of the word and push it away instead of moving towards it and learning how to break free.

Dr Sarah Woodhouse is a research psychologist who specialises in trauma and is passionate about helping people face this word and their past. In You're Not Broken she teaches you what a trauma is (it's probably not what you think), and how to recognise when, why and how your past is holding you back. She gently explains the pitfalls of ignoring awkward, upsetting episodes and how true freedom comes from looking back at your past with honesty. Then, sharing the latest research-based techniques and her own personal experience, she guides you towards breaking the trauma loop, reawakening your true self and reclaiming your future.

With so much misunderstanding about trauma and misinformation this was refreshing, thoughtful and honest. I’d listen again

A compassionate and helpful resource

Hearing Dr Sarah Woodhouse read her book felt like being in a private therapy session with her. She is compassionate and presents the latest research and theory in a straightforward way, helping the reader understand one's past traumatic life experiences and their impact on present day thoughts, feelings and behaviour. She also provides some excellent strategies for managing trsuma-related reactions.

Such a wonderful book to listen to as the author reads aloud herself and her voice is interesting and captivating and emotionally connects with her own stories and experiences.

What a wonderful book

I enjoyed listening to every minute of this book. I found Dr Woodhouse's voice so soothing and absolutely perfect for her own words. This book opened my world to a new understanding, I found it very interesting and it's helped me greatly. I bought the hardcopy as well, I will be reading and listening to this book again and again. The tools are very useful and easy to understand. Such an enjoyable listening experience on a heavy topic, I was drawn in from the first few words.

Clear, concise and well structured.

The book was an unexpected and succinct explanation of the trauma process and means to deal with its impacts.
It gave me insights into why I react to different situations. It allows you to say I’m ok.
It also gave me a positive affirmation of who I am.
Thanks Sarah😊.
