"في يوم شتويٍ ماطر كانت هدى منشغلة بتحضير قهوتها في ركن المكتبة عندما فُتح الباب فجأةً وبقوة ودخل منه رجلٌ مبلل بالأمطار التي لم تتوقف منذ أيام فاقتربت منه وهي مندهشة...

ورأته وقد تبلل شعره وثيابه يحاول أن ينفض بعض نقاط المياه التي تساقطت على وجهه فأسرعت وناولته منشفة وقالت: يجب أن تنشف نفسك جيدًا وإلّا ستصاب بزكامٍ حاد...فنظر إليها نظرةً دخلت أعماق قلبها، وقال لها شكرًا لأنّك لطيفة جدًا، واخذ ينشّف شعره ووجهه وهو يقول أنا آسفٌ لإزعاجك ولكني مضطرٌ للخروج رغم هذا الطقس لأنّني أريد شراء بعض الكتب التي أفدت بأنّي سأجدها عندك...

نظرت إليه وبدت مأخوذة بحضوره المفاجيء والقوي وأجابته بأنّها تتمنى أن يكون طلبه عندها.."
