About this listen

On the cusp of her first London season, Miss Madeline Gracechurch was shy, pretty, and talented with a drawing pencil but hopelessly awkward with gentlemen. She was certain to be a dismal failure on the London marriage mart. So Maddie did what generations of shy, awkward young ladies have done: She invented a sweetheart.

A Scottish sweetheart. One who was handsome and honorable and devoted to her but conveniently never around. Maddie poured her heart into writing the imaginary Captain MacKenzie letter after letter...and by pretending to be devastated when he was (not really) killed in battle, she managed to avoid the pressures of London society entirely.

Until years later, when this kilted Highland lover of her imaginings shows up in the flesh. The real Captain Logan MacKenzie arrives on her doorstep - handsome as anything, but not entirely honorable. He's wounded, jaded, in possession of her letters...and ready to make good on every promise Maddie never expected to keep.

There were some really funny moments throughout the whole story and a couple of moments that were heart wrenching. I must admit The Hero is a bit tainted but Devilishly swoon worthy. The main characters were a great match and I really liked all the secondary characters around them Maddys Aunt and all the war ravaged scotsmen.

A fun story

This easy listening audiobook has an interesting mix of likeable characters brought to life by excellent narration.

Madeleine is a quirky loveable soul. Her letters to the fictitious Captain in the beginning chapter were most entertaining and served well to establish the plot and engage the listener.

As usual, Tessa Dare weaves a clever storyline with witty humour, warmth and emotional intelligence. Thankfully the steamy scenes are neither over-baked or gratuitous, but instead appropriately placed for plot development.

I highly recommend this easy listening audiobook.

I absolutely loved this book. Having watched Outlander I felt like I was back in Scotland with Claire and Jamie. Thank you.

Loved the characters and the story was well structured and didn’t get overly involved in detail. Great narration.

Very enjoyable.

I enjoyed this story but not sure about the Scottish accent and all the Gaelic. I think I required a glossary to get through it.

An okay romantic story dreamed
