About this listen

Cold-pressed juices, paleo, hot yoga, colonics, mindfulness, silent retreats...does any of this stuff actually work? Feeling exhausted, anxious and out of shape, journalist Brigid Delaney decides to find out for herself. Travelling the world and starting with a brutal 101-day fast, she tries it all...figuring out what is helpful and what is just expensive hype.

Critic Reviews

"This will make you groan in horror as much as it'll make you laugh out loud." (Benjamin Law, author of The Family Law)
"One suspects Brigid Delaney could write about flossing her teeth and be funny and interesting." (Annabel Crabb, author of The Wife Drought)

Super impressed with this book. It's a story of seeking - what can make us whole in the modern world.

And boy do we try! Brigid's journey through Sydney, Melbourne, London, and New York is just exhilarating. Makes me marvel at her intrepidness.

Her craft with words is obvious - she knows how to make things dance with humour, insight, personal experience, and broader perspective.

But this is an audio book as well. And the performance is an equal to the material. The narrator has the range to bring Brigid's life straight into your ears.

Chapter 24 was an eye opener for me. As an Aussie, I hear about Bali every second day - but I truly didn't know that it was the hub of a 'wellness' industry. I won't spoil it any further though. But it's worth the price of entry alone. Anecdotes for life.

Again - kudos to the narrator.

What a life!

I bought this whilst scrolling through "Comedy" and whilst it does provide some amusement, it's not a side splitting read.

Good read, but not for a laugh

struggled to finish this. Disorientating, as the book goes back in time and then forward and then back again, very hard to keep up with

long and boring

I liked the idea of exploring various wellness paths and with the recent interest in this story driven by Netflix it seemed appropriate to give it a shot . I enjoyed it more than the streaming adaptation site sure

Same same but different

Difficult to stick with this book. I got a couple of points out of it but it was a hard slog and maybe not worth the investment.

Not for me

What a load of rubbish. The trendy word toxin snd detox is so much bull.
I bet she paid a lot for this cruel ‘treatment’. Unbelievable!
