About this listen

The little, abandoned village of Dunsmore, tucked up in the Appalachian Mountains' woody folds, had fallen heavily that evening. Overgrown gardens and dilapidated streets were covered in thick fog that was like ghostly fingers.

After a mystery fire destroyed the center square and claimed the town hall, the library, and numerous houses, Dunsmore had been left mostly empty for over three decades. There was never an official reason found, and shortly after those who stayed silently collected their possessions and headed out without turning around. The town never really collapsed, however. Something stayed with you.

Nathaniel Griggs, a thirty-five-year-old documentarian of the magical and unexplainable, came to Dunsmore attracted by this myth, half-whispered and usually discounted. Nathaniel had gone out to document what remained with a damaged camera, a ragged diary, and a flashlight flickering more frequently than it shined. Driving a rust-bitten pickup truck along a road little like anything kept by civilization, he arrived late on a Thursday.
