Each of us has a dual nature: we are light (conscious) and dark (unconscious). The dark side of our personality - the “other,” the shadow side - is made up of what we think is our primitive, primal, negative impulses - our “existential kink.” Our existential kink also drives the dark or negative repeating patterns in our life: always choosing the abusive partner or boss, settling for less, thinking that we’re undeserving, not worthy. But it also is the source of our greatest power.

There are four characters in every story: the victim, the villain, the hero, and the guide. These four characters live inside us. If we play the victim, we’re doomed to fail. If we play the villain, we will not create genuine bonds. But if we play the hero or guide, our lives will flourish. The hard part is being self-aware enough to know which character we are playing. In this book, Donald will use his own experiences to help you recognize if the character you are currently surfacing is helping you experience a life of meaning.

Delightful and Perceptive Counsel
Any additional comments?
This audio is a live recording of a four and a half hour workshop. I found the majority of the Author's presentation to be both charming, humorous and witty. One negative is that there is some sort of "puzzle" diagram that is referred to during the workshop, for which there is no supplemental material (?), however, in my view this is a minor annoyance and certainly does not significantly detract from the substantive message. Loved the format whereby Alison periodically breaks the performance to review the previous 30 minutes (or so) of topic (I found this to be really helpful for processing the pearls of wisdom throughout).
For most Men, I'd venture they'll receive many A-ha's, Wow's and OMG's from the material presented, as I did. Regularly discovered myself thinking... Holy Crap, that makes SO much sense, no wonder I'd get that (fill in the blank______) response from her when I said or acted that way. I certainly have more tolerance and admiration for Womanly facets that I'd previously not understood (and what used to, at times, become exasperating... now seems more like... charming - particularly Berry Markers).
It's efficacy is not only for Men either. Alison also offers ways in which Women can understand and appreciate the quirks instinctively built into Men, and enjoy a more joyful partnership.
Overall an excellent listen, informative and well worth a credit (or purchase).

AMAZING AND BRILLIANT!!!
Would you consider the audio edition of Understanding Women to be better than the print version?
I've studied TONS of relationship "experts" from John Gray, Tony Robbins, David Deida and others. Alison is by far the BEST! She is not only hilarious, but words things in a very digestible way. She is not a basher of any sorts of either gender. She articulates herself in ways that inspires the opposite gender to want to do more for the other. This is truly a work of art and I've purchased many of her other books as a result. I am quite amazed...

She has pegged both men and women!
If you could sum up Understanding Women in three words, what would they be?
Women/men characteristics
What other book might you compare Understanding Women to and why?
Men are from Mars and Women are from Venus
What does the narrator bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
Her personal delivery and sound effects that made it so real as well as funny.
What insight do you think you’ll apply from Understanding Women?
Men and women are not the same, most of the time. How to better relate to friends and dates."I am truly sorry I hurt your feelings."
Any additional comments?
This was an excellent work that shed light on how the basic male and female characteristics are really different. If you have ever had trouble understanding why there always seems to be communication issues between the sexes, this will help clear it up. If you are married, you should both listen to it, together. If you want a woman in your life, listen to this so you understand what you are dealing with. If you want a man in your life, listen to this so you understand what you are dealing with. Once you gain this insight, you will have a much smoother time. About half way thru she will tell you that the rules do not always apply 100% to each person for all their characteristics. The night after I listened to this, I was on a date with an ALPHA-MALE woman. I could see exactly where it applied and where not. It was amazing! The female friend that recommended this to me was having some issues. I used the code phrase and she immediately rebooted! Even she was surprised. It was not even me that hurt her feelings! I was so sincere because I hated to have my friend hurt.I think I will listen to this a few more times.

I came across this book from my fiance's recommendation. She found out about it because she and I are big fans of Tony Robbins and she found out that he got a lot of his material about feminine and masculine energy and relationships from Alison Armstrong's work. I am so glad that I was turned on to her content. This lady knows her stuff. this program was extremely insightful. It has beautiful and, more importantly, practical tips for my relationship with my future wife. If you want to take a deep dive into the mind of a woman and come out the other side with real skills for your relationships I would highly recommend this audio.

Obsessed with Alison’s work, but...
I cannot, I Repeat cannot, tell you enough how much I love Alisons work. With that said, I wish this was an actual book rather then a recording of a workshop. I don’t mind it, but when telling my husband to listen he found it so hard to listen to Alisons voice at times. She gets very high pitched and almost annoying when she is pretending to be a girl. Again, I don’t mind at all. But for men it may be a hard listen.

Great!
Great to learn about how to maintain a relationship with your boy/girlfriend or husband/wife. With that implied, both will benefit. It's great because it breaks down the wall of miscommunication between each others, as sometimes there are things we don't know about ourselves. She laughs a lot, and you sometimes get a bit put off, but this is a recording of a workshop so the humour is needed to interact with and connect with the crowd. At the end of the chapters, she will go through what she talked about (not part of the workshop).
