The best products can still lose in the marketplace. Why? They are beaten by stronger product marketing. Yet, product marketing is widely misunderstood. It includes segmenting and targeting customers, positioning products vs. alternatives, creating product collateral, and supporting sales teams. But great product marketing achieves much more: it identifies the best way to bring your product to market, accelerates your product's ability to penetrate markets over time, shapes what the world thinks about your product and your category, and inspires customers to tell your product's story.

Rigorously supported by evidence, his findings are surprising - at times even shocking - to the modern mind. Good to Great achieves a rare distinction: a management book full of vital ideas that reads as well as a fast-paced novel.

We live in a world that's obsessed with talent. We celebrate gifted students in school, natural athletes in sports, and child prodigies in music. But admiring people who start out with innate advantages leads us to overlook the distance we ourselves can travel. We underestimate the range of skills that we can learn and how good we can become. We can all improve at improving. And when opportunity doesn't knock, there are ways to build a door.

Story
Developing and implementing a strategy is the central task of a leader. A good strategy is a specific and coherent response to - and approach for - overcoming the obstacles to progress. A good strategy works by harnessing and applying power where it will have the greatest effect. Yet, Rumelt shows that there has been a growing and unfortunate tendency to equate Mom-and-apple-pie values, fluffy packages of buzzwords, motivational slogans, and financial goals with “strategy”.

Publisher's Summary
The team behind How Google Works returns with management lessons from legendary coach and business executive Bill Campbell, whose mentoring of some of our most successful modern entrepreneurs has helped create well over a trillion dollars in market value.
Bill Campbell played an instrumental role in the growth of several prominent companies, such as Google, Apple and Intuit, fostering deep relationships with Silicon Valley visionaries, including Steve Jobs, Larry Page and Eric Schmidt. In addition, this business genius mentored dozens of other important leaders on both coasts, from entrepreneurs to venture capitalists to educators to football players, leaving behind a legacy of growing companies, successful people, respect, friendship and love after his death in 2016.
Leaders at Google for over a decade, Eric Schmidt, Jonathan Rosenberg and Alan Eagle experienced firsthand how the man fondly known as Coach Bill built trusting relationships, fostered personal growth - even in those at the pinnacle of their careers - inspired courage and identified and resolved simmering tensions that inevitably arise in fast-moving environments. To honour their mentor and inspire and teach future generations, they have codified his wisdom in this essential guide.
Based on interviews with over 80 people who knew and loved Bill Campbell, Trillion Dollar Coach explains the coach's principles and illustrates them with stories from the many great people and companies with which he worked.
The result is a blueprint for forward-thinking business leaders and managers that will help them create higher performing and faster moving cultures, teams and companies.

Important for managers
A short and necessary tool to enable better management through coaching and care.
There are some important gems sprinkled throughout, I took a lot of notes, and provided some reflection.
I look forward to incorporating some of the suggestions in my own workplace, particularly placing high priorities in the team, and everyone who is in it.
I found this to be valuable and worthy, and I look forward to referring to the highlights as a reminder of where my priorities in the business landscape, need to be.

Best business book in a very long time
I loved this book. The title originally threw me; I thought it was incredibly cliche. But I’m so glad I ended up choosing it. Bill Campbell sounds like a very unique individual and I’m so glad the authors collated these stories once he passed. I’ve read a few of these types of books over the years but this one was head and shoulders above them all. Like Bill, it really cut through the BS and delivered the why and how of his ethos and approaches. It’s the only book I’ve ever finished and then immediately gone back to do it all over again. Get. This. (Audio)Book. 5/5
