I found this series from a comment I read of Conn iggulden.

From beginning to the end it was a pleasure.

An amazing setting, with lots of plot twists and interesting characters, I couldn’t stop listening.

Now I’m off to listen to the next in the series!

It's well written, I love the setting and like the characters, but I'm docking a point for using the 'main characters spouse was killed as motivation' plot. I'll likely pick up more to see if it improves though.

the stakes do not overshadow the very human story on display here with a fantastic performance and great characters I will be reading this story again for sure

The story was unpredictable, I was never certain of what would happen, a lot of cheesy bits that were supposed to be inspiring bit fell short, very funny ending that had me laughing. Good range of characters..... one you despise and ones you love. It definitely worth a read.

Far too many ‘just so’ plot twists and deus ex machinas but some genuinely heartfelt moments and lots of swashbuckling action. More of a story for young adults.
