Publisher's Summary
Would you - could you? - uphold the law at the cost of those you love? Falcio val Mond, First Cantor of the Greatcoats, is on the brink of fulfilling his dead King's dream: Aline is about to take the throne and restore the rule of law once and for all. But for the Greatcoats, nothing is ever that simple.
In neighbouring Avares, an enigmatic new warlord is uniting the barbarian armies, and, even worse, he is rumoured to have a new ally: Falcio's old nemesis Trin. With the armies of Avares at her back, she'll be unstoppable.
Falcio, Kest and Brasti go racing north to stop her, but in those cold, treacherous climes they discover something altogether different - and far more dangerous: a new player plans to take the throne of Tristia, and the Greatcoats, for all their determination and skill, may not be able to stop him.

Absolutely amazing
I'd never heard of these books or the author before stumbling accords them on Audible. I'd been on the lookout for new books after exhausting all books by Brendan Sanderson, Robin Hobb, Brent Weeks, Jim Butcher, Joe Abercrombie, Brian McClellan, and as many other fantasy stories as I could get my hands on. So when I picked up these books, I was hoping for the next series to hold my attention over the course of many weeks, and I particularly enjoyed the story of the Greatcoats, and their ode to the swashbuckling greats. I look forward to reading more by Sebastian de Castell :).

Excellent adult swashbuckling adventure series!
This series is simply wonderful, I really enjoyed it! Falcio, Brasty & Kest are the main characters & their friendship & humour are one of the highlights of this series. While walking my dog listening to the story I would often laugh out loud unexpectedly & at other times would be feeling really choked up with the latest emotions the story invoked. To get that reaction from me while I am out walking attests to the quality of the writing. This series definitely has some adult sections that are not for the faint hearted but the intricacies of the story always kept my attention. All told if you want a funny, musketeer-like fantasy with great plot & characters then give this series a go - you will definitely not regret it!
