Despite the smaller scale, quite possibly the best book thus far.

Great for old Warhammer fans
Heavy spoiler ahead!!!!
This is an excellent listen for anyone who loves grim dark Warhammer. The plot makes way for another book in the series of Gaunt’s Ghosts and shows a potential source for more “ghosts” to join him in a not so expected way. It was also refreshing to see a more human side to our protagonists in this story. Overall, very satisfying 12 or so hours spent.

Solid entry as always
Solid book with a very "French Resistance" feel to it. Good character stuff, good action, interesting portrayal of Chaos. not a deeply introspective mazterpiece, it is 40k after all, but a fun listen. Some dialog can be *too* on the nose or cheesy. I mean cmon: "what are you guys... ghosts?" Really, Dan? lol

Gaunt's not so expendables
In general, always love Gaunt, the 1st and only of Tanith, and Toby narrating. Though this tale lays the plot armor on as thick as Terminator plate. The 80s action movie 1 liners are bad, but funny because of how bad they are.
Overall Toby crushes it, and there are a lot important verse building nuggets of info and little lore easter eggs, but there are too many times the ghosts of Tanith should have seen their last.

One of the best gaunt ghosts story’s
Iv read all the of books so far and for me it’s one of the best ones.
Take a handful of the tanith, throw them on a chaos infested world with a secret mission. What’s not to like…
Like because of the smaller squad you really get to know them and the chaos hosts.
Change from the normal all out war.
Introduction of new characters.

A Gereon 12 / 10!
A fantastic addition to the Gaunt's Ghosts storyline, this book is grounded, well-paced and introduces a fresh form of warfare in constrast to previous books. The small character count makes the novel easy to follow and tensions are higher than ever with chaos once more threatening the lives of our Tanith First and Only. Toby Longworth provides an expected excellent performance for an expectedly excellent author in Dan Abnett.
