Story
When I found myself facing down the scariest black-magic felon in the city, practically daring him to abduct me, I had to wonder exactly how I ended up here. It all started when I accidentally landed a job as a bartender - but not at a bar. At a guild, populated by mages, sorcerers, alchemists, witches, and psychics. Good thing this lame-o human is adaptable, right? Then my favorite guild members - three sexy, powerful, and intermittently charming mages - asked for my help. Did they want access to my encyclopedic knowledge of cocktails? Oh no.

Story
Three months ago, I landed a job as a bartender. But not at a bar-at a guild. Yeah, the magic kind. I'm not a badass mage like my three smokin' hot best friends. I'm not a sorcerer or an alchemist, or even a wussy witch. I'm just a human, slinging drinks like a pro and keeping my non-magical nose out of mythic business. Seriously, I know my limits. So why am I currently standing in a black-magic ritual circle across from a fae lord? Somewhere behind me, my three mage friends are battling for their lives.

Story
When I first landed a bartending job at the local guild, I didn't know a thing about magic. These days, I'm practically an expert on the different magical classes, but there's one nobody ever talks about: Demonica. Turns out they have a good reason for that. My guild is strictly hellion-free, because who wants to risk life and limb to control the biggest bullies on the mythic playground? Well, some people do, and now a demon has been loosed in the city. My three best friends are determined to slay it, but even badass combat mages are critically out-magicked.

Story
As a guild bartender, I can handle pretty much anything - mages, sorcerers, witches, the occasional demon. But show me anything family-related and I'd rather run for the hills. It doesn't even have to be my family. So I have no idea why I thought spending the holidays with Aaron's mom and pop was a good idea. Meeting his famous parents is already terrifying enough, but I've got a bigger problem. Students of his family's renowned mage academy are being attacked on the grounds - and somehow no one has seen a single assailant?

Story
I've said it before, but sometimes I'm a bad person. I cheated on my 12th-grade math final, I've run countless yellow lights, and I gossip about how hot my kickass best friends are. (Good thing my job as a guild bartender doesn't require moral perfection.) But there's bad, and then there's bad. And I'm not sure which applies to a certain dark druid/wanted criminal/reluctant friend of mine. His transgressions include black-magic dealings, kidnapping, and murder, and he's about to add "revenge-fueled killing spree" to his resume - if I don't stop him. Should I stop him?

Once upon a time, I was your average spunky redhead with the lamest employment history ever, a shaky relationship with my only family member, and no idea what I was doing with my life. Now, I'm a pseudo mythic with the best bartending job in the world, the most amazing (and hot) best friends I never knew I needed, and a guild of misfit magic-users who've become my extended family. Story
When I arrived at my uncle's house, I expected my relatives to be like me - outcast sorcerers who don't practice magic. I was right about the sorcery, but wrong about everything else. Rule two: Don't listen to the demon. My uncle chose a far deadlier power. He calls creatures of darkness into our world, binds them into service contracts, and sells them to the highest bidder. And I'm supposed to act like I don't know how illegal and dangerous it is. Rule three: Don't talk to the demon. All I had to do was keep my nose out of it.

I'm bound to a demon. For my entire life, I avoided magic at all costs. Now, I'm responsible for a demon who wields magic more powerful than the toughest mage or sorcerer. Demons are evil. I thought I was a good judge of character, but recent events proved me very wrong. Now, in a brilliant demonstration of my newfound caution, I'm putting all my faith in a demon - a demon who's tried to kill me before. The squirmy feeling is making sense, right? Unfortunately, I don't have any other options. Ezra's time is almost up, which means I need answers and I need them fast. So it's time to toughen up, pack my gear, and find me one of the most illegal, reviled, and scarce mythics out there: a demon-mage summoner.

I thought I understood power. My parents taught me that magic attracts equal danger, and everything I've seen since becoming a demon contractor confirms it. I've witnessed how power twists and corrupts - and I've tasted power no human should wield. I thought I knew greed. Ambition and avarice drove my family into hiding. My parents died for someone else's greed. I've never hunted anything in my life, but now I'm hunting their killer - with my demon's help. I thought I'd seen evil. But with each step closer to my parents' murderer, I'm uncovering a different sort of evil.

Publisher's Summary
Broke, almost homeless, and recently fired. Those are my official reasons for answering a wanted ad for a skeevy-looking bartender gig.
It went downhill the moment they asked me to do a trial shift instead of an interview - to see if I'd mesh with their "special" clientele. I think that part went great. Their customers were complete dickheads, and I was an asshole right back. That's the definition of fitting in, right?
I expected to get thrown out on my ass. Instead, they...offered me the job?
It turns out this place isn't a bar. It's a guild. And the three cocky guys I drenched with a margarita during my trial? Yeah, they were mages. Either I'm exactly the kind of takes-no-sh-t bartender this guild needs, or there's a good reason no one else wants to work here.
So what's a broke girl to do? Take the job, of course - with a pay raise.
Make sure to check out the companion series, The Guild Codex: Demonized, available now, and The Guild Codex: Warped, coauthored by Rob Jacobsen.

Way too much leery vom in mouth
It's not a bad premise, and the story isn't bad, but the constant "he's so hot my panties are on fire, drool drool" stuff is awful. It's like it's written for the female version of the raincoat brigade, by it's leading member. It's the kind of stuff men writing in the 50s didn't even get away with. Which is a shame because the rest of the book is pretty OK. I'll try the next one in the hopes she mellows out a bit, but this one's going back under the protest of feminists throughout the ages that half the characters are nothing more than pieces of eye candy meat.

My first audiobook review
This was the first time if have listened to an audiobook right through and without purchasing the book itself. I found it was good for when walking the dog and driving. I had to rewind a few times when I missed something though. If something else attracted my attention, I found that I was easily distracted from the audiobook and would have to reply the past I missed. The story and character were good. Romance doesn’t seem to be the main part of this series. This is the first time I have read/listened for this author. I was first introduced to this author at the book convention and was attracted to the cover art which the author does herself, but also liked the descriptions of her books. The narrator was good, however only really had three main voices - from the heroines perspective Tori, men (the three main men in this series sounded similar and was hard to tell them about, and a sort of posh lady voice, however I did still enjoy her narration of the story.

Straight Dude Reviews
Safe to say I enjoyed this book immensely.
Yes it is from a very capable independent women's POV, but I can handle that.
This first person account of the adventures of Tori the 'Fire-Cracker Redhead' and her immersion into the hidden world of Magic Society is a great slant on traditional story telling of a well trodden genre.
The story is fast paced and original. It's very easy to listen to and is read at a beautiful syncopation.
Sticking points for some were the overly descriptive interactions and fantasy with the male characters, who are of course, quite pleasing to Tori's eye. If it's too much use the 30 sec advance icon. Don't let the throbbing Bratwurst stop you from enjoying an easy to listen to fiction with a great story.
P.S. you may even get some insight on how the female mind ticks... well at least how Tori's mind ticks.
Enjoy

A Wonderfull start to an excellent series.
Sure these series may have a couple of awkward to listen to moments in it BUT the story is well written. There are hidden hints to both sister storylines (they run parallel to eachother but they can deffinately be read stand alone)
This book does an excellent job at world building.
Sit down and listen! The guild codex is full of well, magic.

Great Read
A mix of action and magic. This book doesn't have a cliffhanger, however, it does end with a half certain romance. The main element of this story is the bad-ass female protagonist who is loyal to a fault but doesn't expect the same from anyone else. This is a story about a girl who is surrounded by things way more powerful than her but continues fighting for what she believes in. This was a great listen with awesome narration. Having read some books by Annette Marie already, this was definitely not a letdown to read. I loved this book!

No spoilers
This is the first book I've listened/read by MS Marie and I liked it a lot and will try more of her books. This one was full of action through out, suspense and some laughs no flat spots in the book moved along nicely. I wouldn't say it was a must read but it was entertaining and I will be reading/listening the next in the series. As far as the narrator MS Dukeheart she did a fantastic job loved her voice. She brought this book to life did the voices of all the characters very well. Without hesitation i will listen to any book read by her. Highly recommend the Audible and it's a nice price too. After you read this series try M.L Ryan Corsedon series or Deborh Dunbar Imp series both very good but read this first and enjoy like I did.

Fluffy Fun for the Win
The normal pattern is that our hero is a supernatural in a human world who saves the day, this time around its a mortal who stumbles into the supernatural world and whilst not quite saving the day, does seem to use her own mortalness to help out.
It is a cute story and I'm looking forwarding to more.

Damsel in Distress with hot guys
I am not into female characters evolving only around men, the damsel in distress story is too old school for me and there are too many books now that try to force multiple love interests to one girl instead of developing her as somewhat individual character its this constant protect the female vibe. The narration was very good but the story sucked.

Like it was written from a playbook
Trite, simple and shallow. That is the story, the characters, the MC and well... the whole thing. I could not believe how dead linear the progression of the story was or how ridiculous the MC was. "Oh, look, I'm a super hot and hot-headed ginger who has ZERO skills or self-control but everything bad that happens to me is someone else's fault and not because of my own choices in life and OH YEAH, I have no powers but I'm constantly saving the lives of these three totally hot guys who are SO into me right now". Not even books that target adolescent boys are this trite.

Just a straight forward story of a young woman who is mouthy and has poor judgment and has no critical thinking skills and who is focused on young men and needs to be protected and rescued by the same young men. Plain writing with few interesting descriptions, observations, or plot twists.

LOVE LOVE LOVE
It is sooo hard now days to find a good book where the Heroin is not whinny or waiting on a guy to save here. And let me tell you this book is amazing! I loved every second of it. The MC is not one to let people push her around, nor is she one to just stand by and let the guy do all the saving. She is smart and has a lot of attitude, and a bit of a temper. But this book has you smiling and laughing and rooting for her to kick butt. She does not have "gifts" of her own so she is a human helping mages and let me tell you that she is doing a fantastic job doing it.
I am already excited to get the next one! This is a fantastic series!
Also the narrator was perfect for this series. Just the right tone for all of them and you can tell everybody apart which makes the book play like a movie in your head. I definitely recommend this one!

Ok
I’m not a fan because she is pretty much just a boring human and need her mage friends to protect her based on the title I thought she would have some unknown magic and be strong but nope I am not a fan of boring weak heroines in a paranormal book. I didn’t finish listening after the part where one of the guys had to babysit her and others had powers all she can do is yell and punch them in the face

Teen Urban Fantasy
When the cosmos puts a mundane amoungst the mystics, she finds a home, a place to be, happiness. The main character has something... critical thinking ability, like Sherlock Holmes, as well as a willingness to put herself in harms way for the peeps she cares for. An excellent trait. This was a satisfying read, no over the top hot and humping...

Thin tale
Very thin plot with the lone non-magical person being the lone non-witless person.

An Action-Packed Story To Kick Start The Series!
Annette Marie is a new-to-me author, I must confess to being a bit weary as she is a well respected YA author and I usually avoid YA like the plague, but I quickly found myself really enjoying this book.
I liked her writing style and I found this story easy to read. The prose and pace used was good: the tale never felt rushed and came without any dreaded information dumps or slumps.
I downloaded the ebook for free using my Kindle Unlimited subscription and used my Audible credit to add the narration. Cris Dukehart is a new-to-me voice actor and as a narrated book, I was impressed with her performance; loving the pace at which she read the story and her slight tonal adjustments for the dialogue. I think the narration encapsulated Tori's character and the feel of the story brilliantly. I would definitely buy books narrated by her in the future.
Three Mages and a Margarita had all the aspects that I look for in a great story: intelligent writing style that’s easy to read, main characters with depth of personality that I can like and believe in, depth of character in the supporting cast, believable background story and setting and a balanced mix of relationship, tension, action and mystery. I loved the fact that the mystery and conflict was satisfactorily concluded by the end of the book while still leaving enough threads and interest to tempt me into getting the next book.
I would recommend this book to fans of mystery stories who enjoy adventure within an urban fantasy setting and don’t mind a bit of bloody action and a sprinkling of romance thrown in.

Missing Something.... Powers
This book had great potential however I couldn't help but wish the lead character had some powers... I know this is what the author was going for... a human surviving in a non human environment but frankly it was boring. The story around how she ended up getting a job in the guild was also weak. Much better stories out there.

Fun, funny, and captivating
Chris Dukehart does a stand up job of captivating the MC's essence. (the only issue I have with her performance is sometimes she pronounces words in a weird or unfamiliar way "quay" as "kway" instead of "keee" for example).
Tori is hilarious. I love her grumpiness and her stubbornness. Her character shines through in her every decision.
Actually, all of the characters stand out wonderfully. They're so individual and interesting and dynamic.
The story itself is fun, and interesting. I spent a lot of my time in heart-pounding tension or grinning ear to ear.
I would absolutely recommend this book to fans of urban fantasy, especially hidden magical worlds.

Surprising little gem
This author is a new to me, I have not read or listened to any of her work before, but after listening to this, I will definitely be listening to/reading more.
Tori is a hot headed redhead who has had 6 jobs in 8 months and gets fired from them due to her temper. The story starts with a customer looking to get their meal for free, but Tori's having none of it, she ends up getting fired. She trudges home to the apartment she shares with her cop brother.
She looks for another job and comes across an advert for a bar maid. She goes to the bar and she's given a trial shift, during which she throws a margarita at a customer. Instead of getting fired, she's given the job.
However, things are not what they seem - it's no ordinary bar, but a bar for magicals, and she's human, a human that is unaware that magic exists.
Tori's a great character, full of snark and spunk, says what she wants and often lets her temper get the better of her. And she's not afraid to step in and help her new friends out when needed, despite not having magic like them.
I liked the narrator, she told the story well and made it enjoyable to listen to.

Anyone for a margarita?
I was a little unsure of this book at first; I'm not one for fantasy book, but surprisingly I really enjoyed this book.
I found the book well paced, full of explosive action, a few thrown drinks and lots of cheeky banter. The characters are fun, intriguing and make you smile. I found myself smiling and even chuckling at the exchanging banter between Eren and Tori!
If you like magic, antics and sass, then this book is for you. I will definitely be getting book 2 ^^
