Story
As a guild bartender, I can handle pretty much anything - mages, sorcerers, witches, the occasional demon. But show me anything family-related and I'd rather run for the hills. It doesn't even have to be my family. So I have no idea why I thought spending the holidays with Aaron's mom and pop was a good idea. Meeting his famous parents is already terrifying enough, but I've got a bigger problem. Students of his family's renowned mage academy are being attacked on the grounds - and somehow no one has seen a single assailant?

I thought I was a good judge of character, but recent events proved me very wrong. Now, in a brilliant demonstration of my newfound caution, I'm putting all my faith in a demon - a demon who's tried to kill me before. The squirmy feeling is making sense, right? Unfortunately, I don't have any other options. Ezra's time is almost up, which means I need answers and I need them fast. So it's time to toughen up, pack my gear, and find me one of the most illegal, reviled, and scarce mythics out there: a demon-mage summoner.

Story
When I first landed a bartending job at the local guild, I didn't know a thing about magic. These days, I'm practically an expert on the different magical classes, but there's one nobody ever talks about: Demonica. Turns out they have a good reason for that. My guild is strictly hellion-free, because who wants to risk life and limb to control the biggest bullies on the mythic playground? Well, some people do, and now a demon has been loosed in the city. My three best friends are determined to slay it, but even badass combat mages are critically out-magicked.

Three months ago, I landed a job as a bartender. But not at a bar-at a guild. Yeah, the magic kind. I'm not a badass mage like my three smokin' hot best friends. I'm not a sorcerer or an alchemist, or even a wussy witch. I'm just a human, slinging drinks like a pro and keeping my non-magical nose out of mythic business. Seriously, I know my limits. So why am I currently standing in a black-magic ritual circle across from a fae lord? Somewhere behind me, my three mage friends are battling for their lives.

Once upon a time, I was your average spunky redhead with the lamest employment history ever, a shaky relationship with my only family member, and no idea what I was doing with my life. Now, I'm a pseudo mythic with the best bartending job in the world, the most amazing (and hot) best friends I never knew I needed, and a guild of misfit magic-users who've become my extended family. And I'm about to lose it all. In my desperation to save Ezra, I stumbled into a web of ruthless deception - and seriously pissed off a sleeping hydra.

Story
When I found myself facing down the scariest black-magic felon in the city, practically daring him to abduct me, I had to wonder exactly how I ended up here. It all started when I accidentally landed a job as a bartender - but not at a bar. At a guild, populated by mages, sorcerers, alchemists, witches, and psychics. Good thing this lame-o human is adaptable, right? Then my favorite guild members - three sexy, powerful, and intermittently charming mages - asked for my help. Did they want access to my encyclopedic knowledge of cocktails? Oh no.

I'm bound to a demon. For my entire life, I avoided magic at all costs. Now, I'm responsible for a demon who wields magic more powerful than the toughest mage or sorcerer. Demons are evil. That's what my textbooks say. That's what I see. He's ruthless, he's temperamental, he's cold. But he protects me without fail. I wonder if he's hiding a heart behind his hostility. My demon is a monster.

I thought I understood power. My parents taught me that magic attracts equal danger, and everything I've seen since becoming a demon contractor confirms it. I've witnessed how power twists and corrupts - and I've tasted power no human should wield. I thought I knew greed. Ambition and avarice drove my family into hiding. My parents died for someone else's greed. I've never hunted anything in my life, but now I'm hunting their killer - with my demon's help. I thought I'd seen evil. But with each step closer to my parents' murderer, I'm uncovering a different sort of evil.

Broke, almost homeless, and recently fired. Those are my official reasons for answering a wanted ad for a skeevy-looking bartender gig. It went downhill the moment they asked me to do a trial shift instead of an interview - to see if I'd mesh with their "special" clientele. I think that part went great. Their customers were complete dickheads, and I was an asshole right back. That's the definition of fitting in, right? I expected to get thrown out on my ass. Instead, they...offered me the job?

When I arrived at my uncle's house, I expected my relatives to be like me - outcast sorcerers who don't practice magic. I was right about the sorcery, but wrong about everything else. Rule two: Don't listen to the demon. My uncle chose a far deadlier power. He calls creatures of darkness into our world, binds them into service contracts, and sells them to the highest bidder. And I'm supposed to act like I don't know how illegal and dangerous it is. Rule three: Don't talk to the demon. All I had to do was keep my nose out of it.

I'm not your average girl. My best friend is my switchblade. My favorite hobby is using it on the cruel, the abusive, and anyone who gets on my bad side. I'm a convicted murderer with a chip on my shoulder and a dangerous lack of restraint. And then there's Zak. His rap sheet makes mine look tame. The bounty on his head is worth more money than I'll ever make, and the deadly fae that shadow his every step wield more power than I'll ever know. Agent Kit Morris. Has a nice ring, doesn't it? It's a big step up from "wanted criminal" or "that weird con-artist guy with weirder psychic powers", both of which recently applied to me. But my promotion to MagiPol agent comes with a few drawbacks. First, supremely talented and effortlessly gorgeous Agent Lienna Shen won't agree to a dinner date with me. Second, my new assignment has pitted me against a guild with very bad taste in pets. Third, those pets are demons, and those demons want to kill me.

As a former con artist, I love a convoluted, mind-bending scheme as much as the next guy. But as a recently promoted MagiPol agent, I love it significantly less than that guy. Especially when the life of a kidnapped teen hangs in the balance. Between confusing orders and conflicting evidence, this whole investigation has me and my partner, Lienna, spinning in circles. Why is our boss keeping this case off the books? Why is our top suspect, the most notorious rogue in Vancouver, mired in contradictions?

Publisher's Summary
I've said it before, but sometimes I'm a bad person. I cheated on my 12th-grade math final, I've run countless yellow lights, and I gossip about how hot my kickass best friends are. (Good thing my job as a guild bartender doesn't require moral perfection.)
But there's bad, and then there's bad. And I'm not sure which applies to a certain dark druid/wanted criminal/reluctant friend of mine. His transgressions include black-magic dealings, kidnapping, and murder, and he's about to add "revenge-fueled killing spree" to his resume - if I don't stop him.
Should I stop him?
He and his nemesis are gearing up to tear each other apart, rogues and vultures are converging with their sights on the spoils, and the guilds that would normally stomp them into the ground are under attack. We're on the verge of an all-out criminal turf war, and my time to decide is almost up.
Who's the real bad guy...and do I dare stand in his way?

Enjoyable
After going full steam ahead with this series I’ve churned through each book in a day or so up until this point. This addition was great but I have no stopped and switched to the Demon series as I can see that those books which focus on a new character introduced in this series will probably play a big role in what’s to come. With this in mind I jumped on the authors website and had a look at her recommended reading order and have decided to follow. My reason is I would like to know more about her story and I feel that if I continue on to the conclusion of this series it will give away the co series storyline and I won’t enjoy it as much.
As you can tell, I’ve really enjoyed this authors story telling and the world she has created for her characters. Very captivating whilst also being quite an easy read/listen. It makes for a nice change from the more adult books which can sometimes sacrifice story development for steamy romps (which isn’t always a bad thing, just a nice change)

Enjoyable. Not as good as earlier books in series
Twists, magic and adventure. Betrayal, love and lust. This story improves on the preceeding Amaretto novel, but in general I think these most recent books are losing in cohesion and finesse compared to the earlier novels. Perhaps Annette Marie is trying to pump out the novels in too great a quantity. Still plenty to enjoy hear and an easy listen.

Ugh! Tori sucks but Twiggy saves the day
I really liked the ending of this book. There is tension, drama, unexpected partnerships, surprising betrayals, new characters, old acquaintances, demons, hunters, and Fae!
One big shining light to this book is Twiggy. Gosh, I love that little Fae 🤗
Who I didnt care for in this book was Tori. At the end, I personally was on "the bad guy's" side rather than hers. Tori isnt smart, isnt magical, isnt cunning, she is just a bunch of isnt's. What she is is a hypocrite and cry baby. "I know you're a bad guy but I didnt think you would do bad things"... not her exact words but that's basically what she is thinking... she just annoys me immensely. I read these books for the storyline for all the other characters... I want to know what happens with Ezra, Zac, and Robin. But Tori... Tori is just a side note to me.
On a better note, I would love to read this author's adult work. I just imagine stories like this with more mature characters and its exciting.

I love the characters and the plots. Tori has a hard to like personality. While she's not someone I would want to be friends with, I enjoy reading and listening to a character that isn't cookie cutter. The side characters are wonderfully fleshed out and once again, the author inserts the perfect amount of humor into the story to keep it from getting bogged down by all the drama and problems.

A fantastic read!!
I loved this book! It was a fun story.
I really do love Ezra, and seeing Robin, Zylas and Tori's golem fight scene from another point of view was cool.
The glimpses I get of Robin and Zylas makes me miss the story from their point of view... Tori is still a lot ridiculous here. Shocked that her bad Chrystal druid was Actually Very Bad... but her story is interesting, even if I consider her a necessary evil to enjoy the world and other characters

Another Brilliant book!!
I honestly LOVE this series of books!! Every single thing about this is 5 stars. The plot is fantastic, twists and turns that you would never believe, the characters are amazing.... each one now has their own storyline running alongside the main plot. This author writes in a way that you just want MORE!!! I cannot wait until the next one is available... I’ve read that it is July on Audible.... let’s hope so! Do not hesitate reading these books. You will get lost in them and won’t be able to stop reading/listening until the very end. BRILLIANT!!

Freaking Amazing
So much is going on in this book, I don't even know where to start - so I won't otherwise I might spoil it for you.
Let me just say this, amazing storyline, even more amazing characters, brilliant narration. Only downside is I have to wait until July for the next book....
Get it, you won't be disappointed :)
