Publisher's Summary

Anxiety - it's the worst: choking, stifling, smothering, tingling, panicking, brain cutting out, bad decisions. You're a human being, so you know exactly what's being said here.

Dr. Faith Harper lays it all out: what anxiety is, what it's good for - that's right, it's actually a necessary response that helps to keep us alive in bad situations - how to know when it's gone overboard, and practical tips on how to deal with it when it gets bad. This book is a lifesaver for panic attacks, breaking out of flight-or-fight-or-freeze responses, and for chronic anxiety. It's also good for folks who aren't daily burdened by anxiety, but want to better cope with those tough situations that affect us all. Listen to this and breathe!

Language gets some getting use to...

The material in this book is excellent. I purchased it to determine if it could help one of my students. However the amount of “off color” language becomes almost distracting. The term “A little goes a long way” really applies here. Please tone it down a tad. I’m hoping the suggested exercises will prove to be helpful. Thank you for taking your time to prepare such a book.

Narrator made me fall asleep

I really wanted to like this book, I listened to it twice on audible and just couldn’t stand the women who was reading the book. I can’t tell if a robot was reading it or if it was a real person because it’s sound so monotone. For example on some parts that had some vulgarity it should have been read with a little more emphasis, and some parts of the reading lacked emotion, it was like watching a bad acting scene, only instead you are listening to one. The content was ok, however it wasn’t anything you couldn’t find on the web. The thing that irritates me the most is the narrator. Almost made me want to cancel my membership all together during my trial. Hopefully I can find other good books that will change my mind.

Amazing awareness

Been having trouble with anxiety for a couple years now. Been getting in the way my daily life so I figured I would read a book and find other perspectives on what I’m going through. The awareness and real ness of this book blew me away. I love the descriptive language and multiple perspectives it Offers. As well as finds the perfect balance of empathy and being strait forward. Also great humor as i chuckled more times I can count. I will be listening to this over and over. Thank you!!!!

Unnecessary Cursing

Didn’t care for the cursing and negative tone. It’s a turnoff from the first sentence.

Helpful but distracting

This is a very helpful book with great advice, however I’m not a big fan of use of profanity.. especially the “F” word. Some use of that word is ok. In some situations it makes me laugh because it’s funny. But sometimes it’s used too much to where I almost wanted to stop listening and I couldn’t take this seriously. Aside from that, overall it was a good experience.

disappointed

Would have enjoyed listening to this book if I didn't feel like the author was trying some psychological scheme to brain-wash my mind with the f-word.

did not help my anxiety

mostly common sense advice with a bunch of curse words thrown in, I guess to try and seem relatable. really disappointed. if you want help with anxiety there is a really good Ted talk out there.

this has helped me so much whit understanding my anxiety and why it happens, it has also helped me whit explaining why I feel the way I feel to family members, friends and also my therapist, I've finally after 10 years of struggling with anxiety been able to go out more and be more open to people about my struggles, I 100% recomend this book

Swears unnecessarily

The author swears necessarily continuously through the book. This makes it practically impossible to finish the book.

Unnecessary Swearing

The author has managed to make herself look like a complete clown, and completely undermine the message of the book, by swearing completely unnecessarily at every opportunity.
Embarrassing. She sounds like the fishy kid at school trying desperately to fit in but just is trying so hard that it has the opposite effect. Grow up. Or should I say, ‘Grow the f%#* up’.
