About this listen
Cal, an outgoing 10-year-old boy, has his world turned upside-down when he loses both his mother and his home to a fire. He moves across the country to live with his only other relative, his elderly but vivacious aunt Rae. He soon discovers that magic runs in his family, and that old family resentments threaten both he and Rae. Cal learns there was a third sister in his mother's family, and she may have had something to do with his mother's death. And now she was after Cal.
Together with his new friend, the precocious and independent Laverne, they fall into the dangerous world of magic, where Cal discovers his own mysterious abilities.
But can he master them before the creatures hunting him catch up?
