Publisher's Summary

The magic flames are raging. Blades are melting. Souls are reduced to ashes in the fury of battle. The grand finale of the war for the First Temple is upon us. The last trump cards have been played, the reserves are all exhausted, and even the gods have engaged in the plebeian fight.

The universe is on the point of collapse. Broken are the chains that hold the worlds together. The icy waters of the Baltic cool the scorching sands of the Frontier. The creatures of AlterWorld spill the first blood on the quiet streets of Earth's cities.

What will Max do? Become embittered and butcher his enemies? Seize the deserted castles and abandoned lands? Attempt to save the one who had given her life defending him? Or try to win the jackpot by finding a way home, back to Earth?

Character mix up!

How does the author confuse Tigress and Bagheera in this book? The “Black Death is by max’ side for 3 books. Now all of a sudden, Tigress was the pet? Disappointing. This would be the worst so far in the series. The last books were really good.

So many holes

Does not feel like it's even the same author. Even within the book there are so many plot holes and changes in tone that I was often confused.

There is also a even more xenophobia and sexism than any of the previous books.

***Spoilers and examples***

The cats tigress and bagheer are mixed up.

Often forgets about the main characters abilities. For example, Laith does not have his temple mana regen and runs out of mana at times.

At one point they are using the cave to help the armies. In the next big battle they have totally forgotten about it.

The whole battle with Loth's army seems too piece meal and hastily written.

Very Typical Litrpg

warning spoilers.

The series is getting worse. From killing character much higher than himself to killing GODs. When he did kill the God no major Exp the writer missed something there. He has curses he fails to bring into play. He claims to have seen his new head stone when he has not died yet. 24 hour skills sometimes do and some times do not require 24, sometime explained by reset potions. Money is only an issue because he says it is but ignores it and spends it any way. The character comes off misogynistic, racist, homophobic, overly nationalistic, and very egotistical. So the story is very predictable and mind numbing. So women are are good for sex, and eye candy, being gay is unheard of, Chinese people can be called slur names, Russia rules (which is fine he is Russian I get it) and Max always wins!! I do not believe I have it in me to listen to the next book. If your a fan you will listen no matter. Hey to each thier own. After all I did listen this far.

More AlterWorld

I waited to listen to “The War,” and “The Battle,” after reading some of the negative reviews, I think the lag time between the fourth release and five and six had something to do with it also, but I finally got around to them both and thought the continuing story was interesting. In fact the majority of the reviews are positive.
Yes the characters of Bagirah and Tigress are flipped, but that is only a small part of the story and I think anyone that has listened this far can easily adjust; and yes there is an undertone of misogyny, not giving excuses for any type of degradation towards women, but this is from the perspective of a Russian writer. After all this series depicts the Russian cluster and the Dark One as the good guys and have right on their side while the Light Ones are evil; how’s that for a flip.
For those who just want to see Max go on quest after quest and just level up this isn’t a video game; the story is progressing, and Max’s character is growing. The series has shown him start from nothing to the head of his Pantheon and each progression he’s had to overcome greater obstacles, even taking on gods, I think that’s cool; but now the story is getting even more interesting. As had been referenced in the previous books the veil between the Virtual world and Reality was ready to tear. In “The War,” the veil finally comes down and for Max and all of those around him it’s a new world.
The ending of “The War,” is surprising and I can’t way to see what happens next. If you like this series I think we should support these Audio books so they will release number six, “The Ultimatum,” and listen to how this series ends. It’s already out in print but I really like the narrator, Michael Goldstrom, and want to hear the rest of the story from him.

Stop at book 4

Any additional comments?

I really enjoyed this series through book 4. It really seems that the author didn't really have a vision for books 5 and 6, so these two books consist solely of Max completing more and more ridiculously, grand accomplishments. Save yourself the time and frustration and stop at book 4.

Disappointing propaganda

So the author had great storyline. It was okay, his main character is a bit misogynistic but you can sort of rationalized this. The author is giving his character characters a narrow veiw of the world. This book continues that but multiplied the anti west propaganda. It crosses a line from story development to promoting a messed up ProRussian, love of past glory, the west is horrible ideology. Killed the story for me. I could excuse the vharacters having human flaws (bigotry, phobias) but will not promote a fantasy fiction with an agenda that is based in xenophobia, homophobia, and generally messed up world Veiw. Russian author for Russian audience might not care and is very happy to Foster hate and ignorance but 1 star is all he gets from me from here on out. Wow what a let down.

author became confused

Drove me nuts that the author switched his cats. How could he not remember which cat had been by his side for 3 books? Totally messed that up Royal. I do hope he does not continue to become confused in his next book.

Mixed up

I love this series, but mixing up two major characters is almost unforgivable. The author mixes up the characters of Tigress and Bagera, it made my head hurt.

This is my last book. Dont waste your money

Light SPOILERS. I stay pretty vague shouldnt effect the story or surprises

To start big fan of Litrpg which seems to be dominated by russians.
From the beginning I barely kept reading but this book ends my trip with whatever this series is... Obviously this author has been racist sexist and anti-american through out but I thought maybe its a cultural thing or fair game the russians have been bad guys a lot in media.
Now though the author has stopped making sense
1. The evil lightside apparently in this book has switched from being in all continents and mainly fighting in russia to being evil americans..?
2. Visuals I have no Idea what the character is doing or where. there is no landscape info. for example teddy running ontop of the ocean and swimming and walking in it.I just picture him doing all 3 simultaneously. Also the lightside attack on the castle.
3. Bruce willis lol?
4. All the girls have the personalities of former prostitutes. He kills off all his girlfriends. while nobody else(allies) dies for good but them.
5.There is no story just scenes jumbled together with no transition
6.Large translation errors and mix up of characters
7.Random powers no explanation.
8. defies gods but cant defy lesser beings.
9. brutally sacrifices pets. 29 years of being eaten alive. what an asshole! (previous book)

The list goes on but mostly this book is a mess .

p.s. oh yeah i forgot to mention the governmention brainwashing with gay porn. lol

I've found the story to be compelling and a fast fun read. However the author is openly and very blatantly Anti-American, homophobic, and very misogynistic. The

last two books feel rushed

The story has some interesting ideas, and have been enjoying the series as a whole. However last two books have felt somewhat flat and rushes compares to previous entries,. honestly it was probably one book originally.

If you are this far into the series tho, you aren't going to stop now.

Some inconsistencies

Some inconsistencies in pet names from previous books. Story wasn't as engaging as previous books. It feels like the author is winging it just to get another book out and paycheck. I felt this book in particular was bit boring and unimaginative. I'm going to try the next book and hope it picks up. If not I'll leave it on the shelf to gather dust and move onto a different series.
