This book will NOT help you create a great vision

I'm really sorry to write this review.
OK the good points, you get to hear again about the classic success stories eg Steve Jobs, JFK and the moon challenge, and the demise of Compaq and Kodak etc
Great hearing them, Michael is a great story teller.

However on actually getting to creating a "vision" for your own business.
It's WAY too complicated and WAY too detailed.
I've been an Apple reseller for more than 36 years. I live and breath Apple.
I was there in 1984 when Apple released the Mac. I sold Lisa computers.
There was never the level of detail in Apple's vision, that Hyatt tells you need you for your own business.

Steve Jobs philosophy was probably "Make insanely great products"
JFK was "Get a man onto the moon by the end of the decade"
Compaq's philosophy was sell as many boxes as you can.

Apple's current CEO, Tim Cook said it well with "The thing that gets me up in the morning isn't our profit or number of boxes we sell, it's making great products that enrich people’s lives. It’s the same thing that has driven Apple forever"

This book doesn't get you creating a simple passionate vision that will inspire you and your people
I wish it did but it doesn't for me
If it does for you great but I doubt it will work

When Apple was in big trouble after John Sculley was asked to leave and Michael Spindler couldn't change it's path, Apple turned to Gil Amelio
Gil outlined Apple's vision - which was so detailed and so boring that even I can't find it anywhere so far on the internet.
It was totally uninspiring and WAY too detailed

What's my philosophy on a Vision? Make it something that can inspire your people and yourself
You have to feel the passion for the things that you do day in and day out
Unfortunately this book fails to provide you with any template for making a Vision that your company will be successful with

Helpful and Challenging

n Vision Driven Leader, Michael Hyatt lays out the importance of vision to your organization and then lays out a process for how to create and implement a clear vision in your business or organization.

As a staff pastor in a large church, it is easy to focus exclusively on the next task. Often, these tasks can become silos. You will string one thing to the next and you will eventually arrive somewhere, or maybe you won’t. Who knows? This is an uninspiring picture but it tends to more or less be my reality.

Through Vision Driven Leader, I have seen the importance of envisioning my destination. In addition to this, I have had a path laid before me of how to craft and script my vision (the book focuses on writing your “vision script.”). The great things about all of a Michael Hyatt’s books persist here. It is a short read without nonsense and fluff. The audio book is right around 4.5 hours. It packs a punch and words aren’t wasted. Additionally, Hyatt expertly lays out a path for those who have no idea what they are doing. He did this for me in Free to Focus and Your World Class Executive Assistant and he continues the streak in this text. I not only know what I should do. I know HOW to do it. Hyatt’s conversational style and engaging anecdotes help this book strike balance between helpful and challenging!

You should read this book if you look at your organization and have a sinking feeling it could be better and that you could get it there. This book will help you pave the road to your vision and make you a more effective leader

Inspired to take action and move forward with clarity!

The idea of this book isn’t new but I was incredibly inspired by his stories and gained the clarity needed for action steps through his framework. I’m very grateful that I listened to this book and see myself revisiting it multiple times in the future.

Another Michael Hyatt Winner

If you need a mentor Michael's books are always there for you. I've read, listened to, all his books over and over again. They're short reads and short length audio books worth the repeated listening.

5 hours of Michael reading up from Wikipedia.

I thought this book was about how to develop your vision, but instead, this book is 5% about the subject where Michael Hyatt actually does a good job of explaining what needs to be done and how you can approach the task. You can get the questions by reading the names of the chapters and then listen to the last chapter where he tries to warp it all up. But that is only 20min of the book. So what is the rest 4h and 28min about you might ask? Well, it just Michael talking your ear off and reading up quotes and well knows stories about how fortune 500 companies have managed to earn billions of $.

Every chapter starts with a question, and then 2 lines of Michael trying to give inputs but then he uses the rest 20min of the chapter to tell you a story about how Apple, Microsoft, Kodak, and many other companies have managed and ending up with a sub-question. Do you know why they did well? Because they had a vision...

If this book was 20min long I would have given it 5 out of 5 stars in all 3 categories, but this book is almost 5 hours long and you need to listen to it all since those 20min of golden info is wrapped in-between chapters.

2 weeks ago I attended a webinar with Michael and had to leave it when Michael started to sell his book and courses for 20min in a row. The webinar was supposed to be 1h long. Already then I thought of my self. "WOW, this man can talk so much about so little".

Again all respect to Michael and all that he has achieved, but this book is just a quick product release to get some more $$ in the bank.
