Ancient and classical societies have always had an ideal of manhood. In Japan, the samurai cultivated not only the art of the sword, but also poetry, calligraphy, and spiritual practice. In Confucianism, the ideal man was the Chun-Tzu (the Higher Man), who cultivated both the arts of war and the arts of peace. And in medieval Europe, the knight lived by the comparable code of chivalry. Such men, considered both warriors and mystics, exemplified wholeness. Yet today, men exist in a chaotic world without role models, guidance, or a sense of the sacred masculine.

Anthony is a fantastic speaker and makes for a great narrator. I love the cultural references throughout the book and the great humour. But the practical advice and techniques is the highlight. Learning how to calm the storm of your mind and harness the powerful memory you already have is what this book is all about.

Purposeful - useless - waste of time
The writing feels long and purposefully drawn out, the ideas presented in the book feel more like copies of other peoples’ work.
The author appears to be someone who got a doctorate, not because they knew anything, but because it would help convince others that they’re worth listening to.
The author and book are a waste of time, and fill me with suspicion.

This is a Significant Book
This is more than a nicely written, entertaining and informative book. It is those things. But, I walked away from this first listening of the book convinced that it is a significant work.
The Victorious Mind is part memoir, part presentation of a detailed and far reaching introduction to the Memory Palace method of memorizing information, and a thoughtful exploration of how to live our lives and use our minds in ways that contribute to the happiness and well-being of all of us. Dr. Metivier’s work is designed to draw in readers and listeners and invites us into engagement with information, and positive service to others with his techniques that include frequent use of memory palaces, meditation, and the things we all know we should do such as eating a healthy diet, exercise, and abstaining from alcohol, tobacco, and substance abuse.
I believe that now, during the international pandemic of the Coronavirus, is a good time to consider the practical wisdom of The Victorious Mind as we search for new ways to do things, including how we assist students, at all levels, to succeed despite in-person classes being closed everywhere. Admittedly, this book doesn’t provide THE answer to resolve our problems, but it does contain tools that I believe can help as we move forward.
I really enjoyed this compelling and thought provoking book. The author has succeeded in so many ways in the presentation of his ideas and providing concrete exercises and resources in different media for the reader/listener. He also does a great job as the voice talent in his performance as the narrator for the audiobook. In short, I recommend this book to just about everyone. This book has reach. As stated in the beginning of this review, I think this is a significant work.

I would have paid two times the amount. My only critique is that he could have broken the book into two parts and charged more and go into some subjects deeper. Otherwise I listened to his book in my deepest depression yesterday and felt a kinship of mind that I didn't get from other books.

Profound Memory System
I have recently discovered the author via You Tube and took his free 4 part memory-boosting video series, available through Magnetic Memory Method website, which is highly recommended.
The author does a great job of the narration and his enthusiasm for teaching really shines through, as is the weaving of multiple components which have led to his victorious mind. I found the detailed examples of memory palaces and mnemonics extremely useful and I've quickly started making my own, with things that I have encountered throughout my life.
A great hybrid between memory techniques, spirituality (without religion), psychology, and personal development, that are supported scientifically. I highly recommend this book.

Will Be Buying The Dead Tree Copy Too!
TLDR? I will probably end up buying this book in dead tree format as well as an Audible ....and I loathe spending money.
I set my alarm for 5AM this morning to have time to write this review. After 2 hours, 3 large mugs of strong, sugary coffee and half a pack of even stronger-than-the-coffee smokes (No I will NOT be following the author's health advice) I reviewed what I had written and realised I had listed 4 long paragraphs of reasons why you NEED to read it and was sounding like some gushing fanboi riding the Hyperbolic Express to a town called Banality.
So I shall go with my first instincts and say that if you are any kind of mnemonist then you'll want to have this book next to the Yates and the Kellys on your bookshelf. If you're just starting out with mnemonic learning techniques then his step-by-step 'walk thrus' of building memory palaces and images will be invaluable. If like me you've been following the author on Youtube for a while then you'll realise the value, in both senses, of the advanced techniques he demonstrates ('seashelling' and 'pillaring' for example).
Despite my having learned before from the author's Youtubes a couple of useful strategies for when my own Black Dog appears with its lead in its mouth begging for walkies, and despite listening fully, attentively and actively to the 'Meditation' parts of the book I can't really say much about it beyond the fact I appreciated his scientific approach and the distinct lack of any chakra rubbing woo. Personally I'm neither looking for New England nor Enlightenment but I would encourage any reader with questions, to any part part of the book, to email the author,he is very approachable and I have found he answers emails promptly and with well thought out answers and explanations.

11 hour book that's 10 hours too long
I don't mind a little scene setting for the listener but the listener has to wade through 7 or 8 hours of his repeated backstory before actual instruction on memory techniques takes place. Dominic O' Brien does a much better job

Excellent.
If you have been listening and reading to Eckhart Tolle, for many many years, and at the same time being soothed and somewhat entertained - but not developing in the slightest. E.T. basically, in my opinion, at the age of 29, blew a mental fuse - and by that fact had his brain's default mode reset, which was certainly not the result of meditation, or, any spiritual practice or teachings. It is Now clear the aforementioned process totally contradicts what E.T suggests others to practice.
If you want to experience what E.T. experienced - drive yourself to a mental breakdown.
If an intelligent, well written, believable, science backed secular approach is what interests you, you have arrived.

Great insight into memory and Anthony's experience
Loved the audio version, would love to revisit the real thing to get a written script and learn better from this experience. Would recommend reading with a pad to take notes!

I’m glad I’ve listened to this.
Having listened to a few of Anthony’s podcasts I thought I would just cut to the chase and listen to his book. I am glad Anthony chose to read it himself. Even though I listened to it at x2 speed it was easy to follow and definitely helped with my memory palaces. Thank you Anthony, you now have another follower on Twitter.
