الصّديقة بنت الصدّيق، هي عائشة بنت أبي بكر رضي الله عنهما، وهي زوجة النّبي عليه الصّلاة والسّلام، ويُقدّمُ العقّاد في هذا الكتاب سيرة حياتها، وتحليلًا للمواقف التاريخية التي كان لها دور بارز فيها، ويتحدّث عن الفتنة الكبرى الّتي وقعت في عهد الخليفة عثمان بن عفان رضي الله، والّتي أدّت لموته، واستمرّت في عهد عليّ بن أبي طالب كرّم الله وجهه، وذكر كذلك ما حدث في موقعة الجمل، ويتحدث في النهاية عن حقوق المرأة، وواجباتها، وعن الفرق بين إنصاف المرأة، والمساواة بينها وبين الرّجل.

والعقّاد هو عباس محمود العقاد؛ أديب، وشاعر، ومؤرّخ ، وفيلسوف مصريّ، كرّسَ حياته للأدب، كما أنّه صحفيٌّ له العديد من المقالات، وقد لمع نجمه في الأدب العربيّ الحديث، وبلغ مرتبةً رفيعة.

ولد العقاد في محافظة أسوان سنة 1889، في أسرةٍ بسيطة الحال، فاكتفى بالتّعليم الابتدائيّ، ولكنّه لم يتوقّف عن سعيه الذّاتيّ للعلم والمعرفة، فقرأ الكثير من الكتب.

وقد ألّف ما يزيد على مئة كتاب، وتُعدّ كتب العبقريّات من أشهر مؤلّفاته.

توفّي سنة 1964، تاركًا خلفه ميراثًا أدبيًّا زاخرًا.
