Story
When Erik and Rugrat entered the ten realms they didn’t know what was going on. They only knew that they had contracted the two week curse. When entering the second realm they came to understand their character sheets, and part of the system that is called the ten realms. A place that the strong make the rules and the weak cling to them for protection and hope that they might be left in peace. They passed through the trials of the Beast Mountain Dungeon, taking control of it and becoming the leader of nearly 200 people.

Story
Erik knew one thing after dropping in, when he first saw the numbers before his eyes, the rumors about the "cursed" were true. He was in another world. Survival wasn’t assured. Cultivate, get skills, grow abilities, or die. His old life, as a combat medic, had been hard, but he had learned some valuable lessons. And he wasn’t alone. His best friend, a marine recon sniper, like always, was right by his side. Could they figure out this fantasy world? What does it mean to ascend? How will they master the magic of this strange place?

Rushed and unfinished.
The story was okay with several interesting events though the two ‘plot lines’ felt very disconnected as I just wanted to get back to the main story. There are far too many minor inconsistencies or repetitions of phrases especially in the final chapters. Too many times did things just ‘go well’. It would be better if there was less outright explaining of the world and more discovery. And probably my biggest gripe would be the constant attempts to do the whole shock and awe thing. It works and is a part of the series though seeing it so often and somewhat forced becomes jarring. I was hoping this would improve over the last book but it got worse. The narrator on the other hand did a great job with bringing out the characters.

typical mike
This is another great entry in the ten realms series. The only reason I gave the story 4 stars is because there isn't a category where I can rate the authors writing from a technical standpoint. I think the story of these books is a solid 5/5 as far as wuxia / litrpg goes but this book is filled with michaels somewhat wordy and repetitive writing style. To me, it feels like he writes book as fast as possible and then doesn't have anyone other than himself proofread them, and then only proofreads them once. It doesn't really take away from the story, but I get a little frustrated with how dumb some of the sentences sound. He also doesn't like to use the word 'it' after introducing the subject of the sentence, which for some reason irks me a little bit. He says things like: "He picked up the heavy table, the heavy table was made of hard mana steel" followed by "He moved the heavy table and then set the table down" It's kind of a whiny gripe but I've noticed this in all 12 of his books I have listened to. "He picked up the heavy table, it was made of hard mana steel. He moved it across the room and set it down" Is that so hard? Do you have to tell me its a table 7 times for me to understand? So in conclusion, I think the story is great and so is the world and all the systems and facets that come with it. I think that Michael could improve his writing a bit instead of just doing the same thing over and over again, but then again is making sales and money so I guess it's not really necessary. I liked the book even though the writing is annoying sometimes and will buy the next in the series for the great story and detailed crafting.

Way too many side character stories. Honestly break the side characters into separate books so you have a flowing narrative instead of a jumbled mess. This book was a bit of a bummer.

Great story and performance, but tempo seems off.
The story and performance was amazing as usual but the tempo seemed off this time. I greatly appreciate the length of the book, but the story seemed as though the last four hours were added on to an already complete story. That's not to say they weren't an enjoyable four hours, but they seemed detached from the rest of the book. It felt like there should have either been another chapter or two, or the last few chapters could have been put in the next book. As it stands the ending feels abrupt and forced *spoiler* ( the last sentence is literally "Casually talking about a course with the express purpose of making it easier to kill other human beings" ) it could just be me but that just doesn't seem like a good place to end the book.

Mostly filler, weakest of the first three books.
about a third of this book was interesting but overall it was tough to get through. Kept falling asleep. The jumps from the main story to side story were jarring and so were mostly boring and lacked immersion as a result. Overall a competent but mediocre audio book. The first two were much better, and reviews indicate the 4th book is back on track. Book 3 felt like a long book 2.5. about 70% of it could be skipped without much negative impact. Just enough important info to make it so you probably want to read it if you like the series, but it's not a great experience by itself.

Excellent overall world building, better than #2
Continued world building with interesting developments. Writing is an improvement over book 2. Still has some odd speech patterns that really get brought out when it's presented as an audio book like when a person speaking actually says "and so on and so forth" or some other speech pattern that is rarely spoken but sometimes seen in narration/writing.

It should be 5 stars but....
As the books progress, the author focuses too much on the non-MCs. it is a 20 hour read book!!! and more than 6 of that isn't about Rugrat or Eric. It gets worse in the rest of the series to the point where you can just skip any chapter that the first paragraph doesn't have Eric's or Rugrats name. Doing this subtracts nothing from the book. I will say that there are a few really cool non MC chapters but instead of just including the good stuff you have to hear all the boring, drab, annoying, nobody cares!!!! stuff. A story should be a story, not a text book, and certainly not every single thought that goes through every single persons head (there are like 12 non MC,MC's now...) This series is in my top 10 of all time reads, but instead of being at the top it is like 9. SO, should you read this book? YES!!! DO IT NOW!!!! But could it be better? yes, it could. The next two books also do the same thing. Too much side stuff. I'm am here for Eric and Rugrat, not every person they meet in their life. I don't care about them no matter how "cool" they are. You know the good from bad parts in a book when you reread a story multiple times. The stuff you skip is bad, the stuff you read over and over again is good. Performance is amazing again!!! Thank you Todd Menesses, it was worth waiting!!!

Good elements but with a few major problems
First I want to start off with the pros. There are very well written battles and the progression of strength is interesting I watch. I also love the alchemy trials and the evolution of Eric’s skills as an alchemist. Now to the cons. The worst of them is the amount of time spent on side characters. It feels like half the book is watching background characters that honestly I don’t have much interest in. There were a couple of interesting points but for the most part I found myself waiting for the book to swap back to the main characters. I’ve been listing to audiobooks for a while but this was the first book to make me take off for a few days out of boredom. The other part that really bothered me was how the made body tempering and opening magic gates in the early stages so easy. It used to be something special that required hard work. Now it’s something akin to a medical procedure to get stronger. A little mistake I notice. They’ve called Rugrat a rouge several times now. He’s not a rogue, he’s a ranger.

Dude, get an editor for these books and focus
focus on the main characters more... you're starting to lose me... also, stop saving money on the short term... you're losing more money on the long term if the audiobook will be the same quality as the future ebooks.

standard rushed book
It keeps up with the story, had k0 deviation from the good structure. has the two interesting main characters progress in their respective ways, has a good army feel. but clearly written so a lot us put down and not much creativity is spread around it like the previous books. It is wholey generic in all the bad and good guys being one dimensional apart from the two main characters that are maybe 3 dimensional.

Series goes from strength to strength
As the third book in this series, it is not an ideal starting point for somebody new to the series and you would be better off starting from the beginning anyway since they are all highly enjoyable in their own right. This latest instalment in the series sees the heroes advancing onto the titular 3rd realm with all the escalations and new challenges you would expect that to entail, it is interesting to see some of the influence they have had on people that are a higher level a bit more this time round as it is obviously a different kind of dynamic from simply helping or mentoring a lower level character. One possible change that people may not appreciate in this book is the increasing focus on the supporting cast from previous books, if you are only reading for Erik and Rugrat's adventures this is not an ideal change, but personally I enjoy the greater depth it adds to those characters. Given this trend increases in subsequent books, it'd be interesting to see the author switch from a single book per realm over to a pair of books, one with a higher focus on the main pair and a second one where they are more supporting characters to the rest of the cast. The narrator gives another strong performance showing good familiarity with the characters by this point and providing suitably distinctive tones for the main characters and the varied supporting cast too. Overall, another enjoyable listen in this series with the only downside being that it is a couple of books behind the regular editions.

The Ten Realms Series
From the two week curse to the Third Realm I've found this story to be absolutely fantastic, I can't wait for the rest of the series to be published on Audible, the narrator does a splendid job giving the characters their own identity and voice. This RPG Lit series is well worth the read or "listen" and I fully recommend this author and series as a work of brilliance.

another great addition expanding the universe
loved it. Well worth a listen its not as combat heavy as the previous 2 books and does focus less of the two main characters but feel it gives you a better idea of the system and universe that they are in and the factions at war within it, how they work and builds a good backstory to the people close to the main characters and what they are doing while the main characters are off adventuring cant wait for the next one
