تحكي هذه القصّة حكاية "آدم" الشاب الطموح والذي يحاول اختراع تركيبات كيميائية ويمارس تجاربه على الفئران هو ومساعدته الفاتنة "نارة".

في أحد الأيام وفي خضّم واحدة من التجارب تذكره مساعدته بأنَّ لديه موعد في "العتبة" وهي منطقة شعبية في مصر ليركض كالمجنون وهناك تبدأ الحكاية..يُصبح آدم غير مرئي لا أحد يراه ولا يعرفه بل يجد نفسه في مكانٍ وزمانٍ غريب !!

فلماذا وما السبب يا ترى؟! وكيف سيخرج نفسه من هذه القصّة؟

في قصّة" الجنس الثالث" ينتقل يوسف إدريس من عالمنا إلى عالمٍ آخر اختفى فيه أحفاد هابيل المقتول ولم يبقَ سوى أحفاد قابيل القاتل ولا سبيل لإنقاذ الأرض إلا بزواج "هي" آخر سلالة هابيل من "آدم" أرقى إنسانٍ في سلالة الأخ القاتل !!
