About this listen

First came the days of the plague. Then came the dreams. Dark dreams that warned of the coming of the dark man. The apostate of death, his worn-down boot heels tramping the night roads. The warlord of the charnel house and Prince of Evil. His time is at hand. His empire grows in the west and the Apocalypse looms.

For hundreds of thousands of fans who read The Stand in its original version and wanted more, this new edition is Stephen King's gift. And those who are listening to The Stand for the first time will discover a triumphant and eerily plausible work of the imagination that takes on the issues that will determine our survival.

Classic battle of good and evil.
Having read this book a few years ago it was really interesting to hear the parts that were not included in the version I read. The characters and their backgrounds really added to the story.
It does go for over 50 hours and I really enjoyed Grover Gardner reading it.

I loved this. A few slow spots but to be expected with something so long and detailed, but I was completely vested in the characters and gripped by the story. A few questions left unanswered but not enough to sway my overall enjoyment of the book.

My favourite so far

He's way too scary for me! But The Stand isn't horror. It's a post-apocalyptic feast. I powered through it in less than a month (which I think is good, considering its length) and I want more. The narrator was AWESOME.

Fantastic story, one I’ve read many many times. Beautifully voiced by Grover Gardner, it was a pleasure to listen to.

The Stand is still the best SK novel

I liked the extended version a lot, fleshed out the characters much more, added more depth to an already deep story. this guy should take up writing for a living!

Steven King should become a writer.

This is probably Stephen King’s greatest work. A massive story about a virus set free and almost killing everyone on Earth. There is good vs evil, with lots of biblical story telling.

An apocalypse classic

I loved the book. I loved the mini series. The Audible version is great as I could listen to it while working in the garden.
Listening to it while in a worldwide lockdown due to pandemic was a little freaky.

Immersive

Steven King produces the MacDonalds of books. Compelling story, shallow characters, a guilty addictive indulgence. Great narrator. 47 hours of listening pleasure to get you through the longest journeys. Thoroughly recommended.
