About this listen

A perfect disaster - or a perfect match? Find out in this heartfelt rom-com novella....

"Just three dates. That's all I'm asking. One boy shares your sense of humor. Another has similar interests and ideals. The third boy has a helpful heart like yours."

When Aditi Gupta comes home late from work as a pediatric resident one night and her grandfather offers this pitch, she reluctantly agrees. She's far too busy with med school to be dating, and besides, she dreams of a love for the ages, like her parents, not an arranged marriage. And yet she finds herself agreeing to three dates because she loves her grandfather. All she has to do is make herself utterly ineligible and problem solved!

And sure enough her first date with the disgustingly handsome and intriguing Krishna Lal goes exactly as planned: not well! But then the second date comes around and Aditi finds that there is more at stake than just three bad dates. Suddenly, her heart is on the line, and maybe her grandfather's, too.

I loved this Indian inspired short story. The Set Up made me laugh out loud and completely sucked me in. Recommend!

Thoroughly engaging

That being said, I really liked Aditi (the FMC) and even tho The Set Up was like 2 hours long, I thought she'd be going on three different dates rather the same guy three times ???

I mean it makes sense that it was the same guy but in the back of my head I thought the Magic Mirror from Shrek was there 🤣

Just—
"So will it be: Bachelor number 1? Bachelor number 2? Or Bachelor number 3?

Other than that random trail of thoughts lol I didn't really vibe with Krishna (the MMC) but when the two of them went dancing, I warmed up to him... just a little bit 🤪

Ending was chill, kinda cute; The Set Up was a pretty straightforward book 👍🏻

Here for the ✨ vibes ✨

3.5 stars

Even though it’s a short read/listen, I found this highlighted some cultural differences in expectations parents or grandparents may have on their offspring - from career aspirations as well as dating.

It was clear the female lead Aditi only went on the dates because she wanted to appease her grandfather. The idea of an arranged marriage may still be present in her culture, even though she didn’t believe in it. The same goes for Krishna.

I honestly loved the ending with the grandparents. Their love story was more real. Maybe a few more chapters and I would have believed Aditi and Krishna’s love story, but that last chapter seemed like a rushed ending.

Would have loved a little bit more

A little 2 hour audiobook about a doctor and a lawyer being set up by their grand parent who just so happen to be old flames. It was cute story and fun to listen to while working but I wasn't 100% for it.

2.5/5⭐️ 1/5🌶️ 2/5🎧 - A short meet cute romance!

Story itself is okay but the female narrator was horrendous. She couldn't pronounce some Indian words properly, she sounds like she was both auto tuned AND that she went to some British school for narration because her narration is so incredibly affected! Her narration ruined the novella for me.

Meh
