Publisher's Summary

From the author of Buried Deep comes a brand-new thriller about a summer vacation turned deadly and a group of friends trapped together until they can determine who among them is capable of murder.

Every year, Caroline Reed takes a trip with her best friend, Esme Lamont. They’re usually accompanied by their spouses - but this year, everything’s changed.

Esme has just gone through a bitter divorce, and Caroline is wondering if her own marriage is reaching its breaking point as she and her husband, John, cope with the discovery that their 19-year-old son has been abusing drugs. Still, the inseparable duo books a weeklong stay at a beach-front home in Shoreham, Florida, inviting Esme’s brother, Nick, and his new husband, Ford, in hopes that the additional guests will help lighten the mood.

After a blissful first night in the vacation home, tragedy strikes, and one of the houseguests is found dead. While it’s assumed at first to be a horrific accident, it quickly becomes clear that there’s something more sinister at play, and over the course of this fast-paced, deeply chilling novella, the potential motives of each guest are revealed - until a shocking conclusion is reached.

Good short story

Good mystery book with surprise ending. I didn’t really enjoy the narration and the “voices” of the characters hard to distinguish. I also didn’t warm to any of the characters. However not a bad short book to listen to.

Who allowed this narration

The story is OK, it’s short and simple and an easy listen. You wouldn’t want to pay for it with a credit but as a freebie it’s worth a listen. But the narration? I CANT. It feels like she took the job of narrating and then regretted it but couldnt pull out of the commitment. It was sooo basic and half baked. No distinguishable voices, a bored and sleepy tone, it was just really rubbish. People who commented the narration is good, I wouldn’t like to see your listening history.

Loved it!

I really enjoyed this story and did not see the end coming, which was really great.
it was well read but wish there were more than one voice narrating.
Overall, I'd recommend this great short story to anyone.
Well done!

Good story

I enjoyed this. The only letdown would be the narrator’s voice - she sounded half asleep.

Outstanding Narration

The story is interesting and the characters are complex. However, Taylor Schilling's superb performance completely won me over.
The hesitations and stutters Ms. Schilling adds throughout the story feel so natural that you are lost in the flow of the narrative.

Well done on a fantastic production!

predictable

So predictable! maybe I've read too many murder stories. Narration was a bit flat but ok

What a Twist!

Listened to this book without reading the synopsis beforehand and was very surprised when it turned into a crime story. I don't believe the book title explains the story as such but maybe that's the point. Great Narration!

The ending ... nah

I didn't mind the narration, it was a bit rushed but in a short novella not a bad thing. The characters and their interactions were reasonably engaging. But....to have a twist at the end which is really just driven by misdirection in the narration....no thank you. Overall not a bad book, but the ending doesn't leave you with a feeling the author respects her readers. The end can be what it was, but at least woven into the balance of the book. It's almost like 90% of the book was written before the author decided how to end it and which character to lay it on. Still, free book, shows promise.
