About this listen

Two women. Two worlds. One love worth risking it all.

When professional soccer player Alex Grey goes on a vacation to the local South Carolina islands, she isn't anticipating any life-changing events. Just a relaxing weekend to prepare for the upcoming season. But that quickly changes when she finds herself the lone witness to a sailing accident and makes the decision to risk her own life to save a drowning woman—unwittingly coming to the rescue of a US senator's wife, Catharine Cleveland.

Despite the vast disparity between their worlds, the two women find themselves inexplicably drawn to one another after the near-catastrophic afternoon. Following a series of interactions from the soccer fields of Portland, to the Marina District of San Francisco Bay, and the cutthroat political circle of Washington, D.C., they find their friendship growing, transforming into an attraction neither woman can deny.

Nor an attraction either woman can comfortably embrace.

As the magnetism of their connection grows, both women are forced to decide if the pursuit of love is worth the cost while living under the scrutiny of the public eye.

The Senator's Wife is Book One of a three book series.

Absolutely love this book and the next 2. That are in my top 10 of best books ever. Abby brings them to life in this audio book.

Fantastic books

Tragic yet beautiful, harrowing yet heart warming. Just like the main characters, this book is complex, real and completely engaging.

Now I have to brace myself for book #2…

Exceptional.

This is a favourite book and I enjoyed the audiobook as well. Such a good story that gets you totally immersed in the characters. The football background is interesting and doesn’t overpower the story. The ‘political’ character is cringeworthy and would provoke homicidal tendencies in the most devout pacifist. Even allowing for Abby Craden’s unusual Aussie accent (can’t be too critical as I know our accent is difficult😀) it makes this reader/listener begging for the next book.

Bring on the next installment

I could not wait to listen to the book after reading the full series.
My only disappointment was the Aussie accents.
I think I would have a preferred a more neutral US accent over the attempted Aussie one for the Australian characters in the book.
I have already downloaded the 2nd installment in the series to listen to next.

Great book.

Jen Lyon’s explosive trilogy - The Senator's Wife, Caught Sleeping, and Whistleblower - isn’t just a WLW romance. It’s power. It’s politics. It’s women dominating in boardrooms and on the field. It’s high stakes, razor-sharp tension, and storytelling that keeps you turning pages (or glued to your headphones) way past bedtime.

This series is a love letter to strong women - women fighting for their place, their voices, and their victories. If you’re passionate about women’s rights, elite sports, travel, ambition, and fierce female leads who refuse to back down, this trilogy absolutely delivers.

And the audiobook? Taken to another level by Abby Craden. Her narration is phenomenal. The range in her voice, the distinct personalities she crafts for every character - you don’t just hear the story, you live it. She creates vivid visuals through her tone alone, building tension so tightly you can feel it, then shifting seamlessly into moments of joy and vulnerability. It’s immersive, cinematic, and unforgettable.

I’m genuinely devastated the series is over - and it needs a film adaptation. With women’s sports finally getting the recognition they deserve and audiences hungry for stories about powerful, complex women, this would thrive on screen. The LGBTQ+ community also deserves more films that celebrate and represent its brilliance and strength, and this story would be the perfect one to bring to life. It would be timely, powerful - and without a doubt, a hit.
